Picking up a Carrera this week
Thanks to all the Pelicans here who have tolerated some of my questions over the past few weeks, as I've been shopping for a 911. I've frequented several car forums over the years, even serving as Admin on http://www.classiczcars.com for the past 3 years, and I can say from experience that the members here on Pelican are top notch. Lots of mature, adult help here, which I really like to see.
My back story is short and simple - I've lusted after 911's for decades, since I was a kid in junior high in the early '70s. Couldn't afford one for many years, and later when I could, it never seemed like the right time. Finally decided I'd waited long enough, and put my 240Z on the market in August. Once it sold (currently awaiting shipment to Norway), it was time to start shopping. The car I settled on is an '84 Carrera coupe in Chiffon white. I pick it up on Friday. About 154k miles. Full history back to the beginning. According to the window sticker, it came originally with sunroof, leather, F & R spoilers, sport shocks (green Bilsteins), limited slip and a Blaupunkt. (Reno? Monterey? Can't recall for certain.) The Blau and the whale tail are gone, and the leather has been replaced and is nearly new, but the rest is all there. The car is in great overall shape. Not even badly rock chipped. The paint (mostly original) is plenty good enough to drive with for several years, I figure. Perfect dash and seats. Mechanically, it's ready to drive. The top end was done by Paul Weir's shop about 40k and a dozen or so years ago. (After 40k, the bottom is perfectly dry.) Transmission rebuilt and new clutch about 5k ago, by Motor Sport International in Portland. Steve Wong 91 octane chip and an M&K pre-muffler. Everything works, even the A/C. The car drives, sounds and shifts great. Can't wait to get it home and start cleaning and detailing - not because it's overly in need, but just because I can. Here's a first few pictures, more detail once I have taken possession. (The first pic shows a Recaro driver's seat in it, that did not come with the car.) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1319416232.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1319416254.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1319416271.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1319416281.jpg |
Welcome again to Pelican!!
The new 911 looks very nice!! Enjoy it as often as you can and drive it like the good doctor intended. |
CONGRATS...What a beautiful car and soooo clean :=). Looks like both front and rear spoilers are gone ...does he have them as they would be nice on the car and if not put on, great value if ever you resell ?

I own an 84 white cab but with black interior. Absolutely love the car and it doesn't have a drop of oil anywhere. Have 131k miles on it but I am the owner for only the last 6k miles and I don't really have any reliable records from the last owner. No known issues, knock on wood. I've lusted after a 911 since 1977 when I got to drive one and I know how I felt the day I bought mine. Enjoy!

Welcome to the madness fellow 240Z fan! You're gonna love that 84.
|
That is one clean car and engine. Congrats. Consider buying a Steve Wong chip if it doesn't have one.
|
is that an SC fender, I thought all the 3.2's had the antenna in the window?
|

Nice first Porsche. Oh yes, there will be more in your futurehttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...ool_shades.gif. White is a great Porsche color. Oregon has lots of good roads to exercise your new sickness. Take advantage of Portland International Raceway through the PCA. See ya on the road!

Welcome aboard Sir!
+1 very clean and a dry belly to boot :D |
Saw this one in the Excellence classifieds and e-mailed the seller. Congrats, it looks like a really good deal.

Congrats! Appears to be a very clean ride. With that color combo, I could almost see adding a little vintage 911 nostalgia with a wood rim / bowtie steering wheel and matching shifter. Enjoy!
Scott Ps. Someone questioned the antenna - I have an 84 coupe with the eye poker in the fender too. One oddity on mine is an early production 3.2 but has the non-integrated fogs like the SC. |
Wow. It would be hard to turn a car like that down. Well done.
|
Very nice, there aren't a lot of chiffon cars out there.
