72... it's about time

Well, I've had this car a couple of months now, and it's time to start up a thread with progress so far. Thankfully, the PO (Don Davis...you may know him from Pelican) did the majority of the work already! Here are a few pics of the car now. It went through a transplant to a strong 1974 2.7 with Weber carbs. We won't even mention that it had a 3.2 engine that Don put in it. I got the car without the 3.2 engine, but I am VERY happy with the 2.7 engine in it now.

It may take me a little while to make the progress I'd like, but I'll get there. Patience has never been one of my strong points

Before...

At home

I've done a few things since I've had it. The bumperterttes were black before, but I've since put on chrome ones. I cleaned them up with steel wool and put new rubber on.

Here is a pic of the 2.7 in there now. I like the Irish Green shroud, but I'm not too hip to the green fan.
I'm already sure that's gonna change back to stock metal.

Greg,

VERY nice.

I see the 2.7 has an early fan shroud without the duct to the engine oil cooler.
Finding a 2.2 and later fan shroud will improve engine cooling (if you use the 2.2 shroud, cut the cooler end to fit the later removable duct. If you need to replace oil cooler seals, you will appreciate the change.)

Does the 911 have a front oil cooler (I would assume so having had a 3.2)?

When you deal with the green fan, consider changing the fan pulley ratio up from the current 1.3:1.
With the right set of Factory parts, it can be as high as 1.82:1.
While not critical in ‘monsoon’ WA, cruising the SoCal high desert (or the High Sierra) in summer, you need all the engine cooling possible.

Again, congratulations on your ‘find’.
(I too like the chrome rear bumper guards on your 911. )

Best,
Grady

man...there are quite a few things I like about this car...

1. the ride height
2. the wheels
3. basic black stripe on bumpers
4. foglight hole covers in place

As far as im concerned... you can stop right now and just chill with a really really good looking car! Im also diggin the dedicated garage slot. Well done all around

No need to do anything... It looks great how it is, and I like the idea of the 2.7 instead of the 3.2. Nice car house!

Greg,

There is a thin black rubber seal that goes under the edge of the overrider, will give you a better line and save you chipping the rear licence panel.

Thanks for all of the great input guys! Don was right, start this thread sooner than later I have tons of things going on with this car. I just have to get something done before I start a new one. That'll be tough for me The car will, basically be pretty new...and very different for me. I am learning TONS from y'all! Here are a few more pix.
This is the new M&K sport muffler on there. Still have to close the single exhaust port, and make the 2 new ones. Sounds great though!

Hey Rich! Chris/Jamie are making the carpet now using a new RS kit as a mold. The seats (ST seats) are being made by GTS classics. I got some Repa harness belts to go with them too. Should all happen in the next few weeks. Repeat...should Until then, I've been keeping busy on other things. Here's a pic of the column redone.

A few more projects I'm working on...
  • Driver's door mirror from TRE (done, but I'll keep the original one)
  • TRE rollbar (ST hoop and it's in the garage waiting for the interior)
  • Throttle and defrost knobs cleaned up (Done)
  • Stereo delete (kinda
  • Steering wheel upgrade (going with the ol' Prototipo)
  • Euro turn signal lenses (got em...just putting on new seals with 3M weatherstrip adhesive)
  • Charging out the turn signal switch (partly done)
  • Changing out the front ts housings (old one off)
  • 906 rain shields, new filters, carb trumpets polished (2 things done. Just waiting for the trumpets now)
  • New Cohline fuel hose (have the Norma clamps an the line is ordered)
  • Battery disconnect switch (done)

Not that I have too many things going at once, but I do. haha! Good thing I didn't mention the projects with the 86!

A little gloss white model paint, some very light sanding, and a Dremel can go a long way. Considering what I had to start with, these came out pretty good. It's never gonna be a concours car or anything...just a decent driver.
