2nd favorite G50 trans oil

Did a search on G50 gear box lube and the Pelican favorite was Mobil 1 Delvac for LSD cars or no LSD. My trans never had a whine in 5th gear driving under acceleration until I put this in. Records show it was changed before I bought the car but did not specify what they put in it. I triple checked the level so I know it is not low. So, what is the 2nd choice from the group? Thanks

I like Redline in my '87 G50. I think the 75w90NS is the one I used? Before changing the fluid, I had odd sounds from the gearbox and even the occasional pop-out of 2nd gear. Drained the (bright green?!) mystery fluid and filled with Redline. All symptoms gone!! Sounds and shifts beautifully now. I'm a Redline believer!!

Mark,

I'll be the odd man out here and say regular off the shelf Valvoline high performance 80W90 in the white bottle. Got mine at the local AutoZone. Most will call BS on this but I found it works good.

My 3rd gear was always a bit crunchy at the track when temps would get hot. I don't know what made me decide to put in regular non-synthetic Valvoline, since the popular choice is synthetic for the G50, but it crunched a lot less than the Mobil 1 Delvac. Not the most scientific test, I know. Still, it was the same car under similar intense use conditions with different gear oil. Give it a try. It's cheap so its not like you're dumping a bunch of $ down the drain.

Kendall 75w/90 Super Three Star Synthetic gear oil. Used it in customer cars at my shop, and since then, in a large number of G 50s, without any problems at all. Good cold shifting, great shift characteristics and no unusual noises/bearing problems.

Moble One Delvac has served me well!!!!! I take great precautions with my G50, especially when she's cold...........I'll stay with my Delvac.

If you've got 5th gear whining I suspect the least of your worries is your choice of gear oil. Please report back on whether or not changing oils resolved your whine.

Check out the Brad Penn website. They have a 75w-90 weight as well as an 80w-140. No experience with it, but hey, they make good motor oil!

I've been using Quaker State 75W140 full synthetic in my G50 for the last three years and i just dumped it out due to an engine removal and it was still yellow in color and no metal bits or shavings on the magnetic plug ...

My car saw 15 track days this Summer and i never had any shifting issues, except for an an exploding rubber centered clutch disc ... that's another story...
Same stuff is going back in !

Cheers !
Phil
