Early 911 Horn Grill Options?
Hi...I've got my little grey car here, and haven't really decided on what I'm doing with the horn grills. I could put chrome, I could put black, or I could do something a little more interesting. Any alternatives (air intakes for brake ducting, mesh grills) out there?

Or more interesting...match the lens for the lights.

I will definitely be matching the t/s lenses to the lights. I need to get a set of clear lenses and apply the same treatment I did to the lights to make that happen. That's definitely on the radar...good suggestion.

Hmmmm. that mesh grill is interesting, retro racy and hot rod appropriate, also very reasonable compared to the cost of light boxes and such...

chrome to match the turn signal lenses, window trim and mirrors.
I have the same basic car but in white. My trim is black and the black grills seem to go best with mine.

very nice looking car. My vote is black unless you go for the fog lights, in that case chrome.

I like the chrome BUT I think my vote would be a air intake, even if it does not go to the brakes or something like that, would go with the hot rod look
And love that color Regardz |

I like the air intake concept too, but i'm not sure where to get one. And yes...the full grill *is* kinda rad. I'm going to look into that...

Kundensport is a shop in Camarillo, CA run by Ed Palmer and Hans Lapine of Porsche Motorsport fame. They are currently restoring a 917K, 911ST, 962C, and have several other secret, high performace, modified 911S projects. They also have a couple original 914-6GTs

that opening is just not large enough to flow a lot of air - take the size, subtract the total area of the grill mesh, then subtract some more for the eddies induced by airflow thru the mesh openings...
another issue is whether it is a high pressure area or not - there are old pics of wool tuft air flow analysis done by PAG (actually PKG back then) online here that could be qualitatively useful it will help some, of course |

Randy...great ideas. They don't even have to GO to anything...I was just thinking something different could be cool.

I think the total area is greater because there are no turn signal lenses, just the little R lights behind. There is a greater aperture even if the total mesh equivalent flat plate area is larger than the normal grilles.
These were one-offs but you might entice them to make a limited production run like they did with their fiberglass smuggler's box lids.
