Now I get it!!!
I'm pretty new to this Porsche infatuation and have learned a lot from the folks on this forum over the last year. Up until a couple of weeks ago i just thought my 911 looked cool and was a fun cruiser but i was downright afraid of it in the corners. Im fact, I much preferred my Audi A4 in the twisty' s.
I put Bilstein Sports on it and it helped a bit but i was still unimpressed. I decided to bite the bullet and took it to a local Porsche exclusive shop that caters to track cars and had them set it up. We lowered the ride height to euro specs, upgraded to turbo tie rods, had it ride balanced for my weight, aligned it "To make it more forgiving so that i can learn to trust the car". They also said it was running very lean so we adjusted the fuel quality switch to position #2. Wow! What a difference. It handles like a go cart and i can't wait to get it out in the curves. These cars are fun! ![]() (I apologize if this posted twice. I typed it once and don't know where it went)

now, if you can just train yourself to NOT let off the accelerator in the turns, you'll be golden.

Comming from several S4 and RS4 cars, the Audi feels heavy and numb in the corners compared to a 911. Be aggressive in a 911 and you will be a superhero driver. Be timid and you and your car will end up in the bushes. Not to quote a old Porsche advertisment but...."there is no substitute" .

No kidding, I learned that one the hard way! I always wondered what they meant by 'don't lift'.

Audis are great daily drivers (and I have had/have a few) but a well set up 911 is a far more drivers car, if the driver is up to the task... YMMV

I have a similar situation. I've only had my '84 for a few months and it's not as confidence inspiring as my 2001 BMW 325it with a full sport package. The 911 has 75000 miles with 100% original suspension and all season tires. I have a full suspension upgrade planned for this winter and can't wait to drive it afterwards.
Thanks for sharing your situation. Dean |

I've yet to feel confident in my '87 even with coilovers.
My old 996 felt impossible to lose grip. |

I learned it a couple decades ago in my old bug one rainy evening around a sharp corner. It swapped ends faster than the blink of an eye. I ended up backwards on someones front lawn. Scared the crap out of me.

Find your local PCA region and go to a few auto-cross events. You can experiment/find the limits without fear of contacting solid objects. And, it's a lot of fun.

Once you learn to steer it with the throttle it gets even more fun.

I know this sounds preachy, but with no distractions(as at the track) you will learn exponentially faster. Enjoy that fun ride!
