Nurburgring video

Two laps of the Nurburgring in the Ruf BTR Yellow Bird. Some of you have seen excerpts in a Porsche video. Enjoy!

i have a factory RUF sales tape which shows the yellowbird at the ring. probably the same footage
it is a VERY VERY fun tape to show your friends what a porsche can do.
i downloaded the above file but haven't had the chance to watch it yet to see if it's the same.

I would be tempted to call that the "yellow Goose" as in LOOSE AS A GOOSE! He looks like me trying to play Need For Speed..Porsche unleashed...in Moby Dick! He would scare the hell outta me driving with him. My car has never handled as shoddy as that! Do you think that is right? as in the correct way to drive that thing? Brian

Whenever someone points out that going sideways in not the fastest way, I think of an article in the Aug-Sept 1994 "Sportscar" magazine about the Ruf BTR 3.8. The driver was "Sideways" Stephan of Ruf video fame.
Quote:
After four runs the photographer is sure she has all the evidence and we decide to do likewise at Aremberg. Before we mount up again Trevor casually dropped in some advice: "I've told you before Chris, when you're sideways you're loosing time". I look to Stephan who was perhaps a Scandinavian rallyist in a former life and he smiles ruefully, as if to say 'yes, but when you are making love you're not always trying to make babies.

Anyone seen 911_Stockholm_Getaway? This driver seems a little smoother. Early morning, slightly wet streets of Stockholm.

I'd like to see any of us try to be smooth in that thing! I think it was the fastest car in the world for some time in '87.

It would scare the crap out of me.

From RUF's site:

Quote:
Porsche´s sensation in the late 1980s was the 959, a high tech 911 with sophisticated four-wheel drive, adjustable chassis and a 450 bhp twin turbo engine.

It was the time of top speed records, and Ruf introduced its record-breaking car in 1987: The CTR, a lightweight 911 with a high tech engine.

The use of lighter materials such as aluminium for doors and bonnet knocks a full 200 kg off the Carrera´s body weight. From a capacity of 3,349 cm³ the company´s very first twin turbo flat six produces 469 bhp at 5,950 rpm delivered to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. 330 mm cross-drilled & vented Brembo brakes provide the negative acceleration.

The CTR features the Denloc system which had been developed in cooperation with the tyre manufacturer Dunlop. The system enabled one to drive home with a punctured tyre.

In 1987 the CTR faced the sports car establishment at the Volkswagen test track, Ehra-Lessien. The Formula One World Champion Phil Hill and the Le Mans winner Paul Frère set up a top speed of 339.9 km/h, thus making the RUF CTR the fastest production automobile!

One year later, Bernd Ostmann, today the chief editor of “auto motor und sport“, even reached 342 kph at the Nardo track in Italy.

With the 911 CTR, Ruf had developed a supercar suitable for everyday use that exceeds the performance of the Ferrari F40.
By the way, 342 kph is 205 mph......real smooth!

I don't know what gears Ruf used in the Yellow Bird, but I estimate that 2nd is good for 90 MPH and 3rd for 125. [You 911 turbo drivers, I think that's similar to a stock 4-speed, but Ruf gets a fifth gear.] Anyway, every time he shifts 2-3 I think, that's 90, and every 3-4 shift, that's 125! Staggering! And he does power-on four wheel drifts in 3rd!

Chris Bennett - what is "Sideways" Stephen's full name? He's a master! The video looks like a rally driver!

A friend just lent me that video, not bad but I do prefer the in car 956 footage round the N'ring (with Derek Bell) to fully appreciate this great circuit.

FWIW - the guy was getting it sideways for the camera, if only we all had a private track to play on !

It is Stefan Roser.

I can't decide whether the Ruf or this Supra takes "best drift ever" title:

Jun Supra Drifting (3.5mb)

Anyone know what "Bar-tchee" (the guy says it at the end) means in Japanese??

I think his name was Stephan Rosin or Rosser, something like that.

Thumbs up end of supra video

For those wondering, the thing that the guy is saying at the very end of that supra drift video right before he laughs is "PERFECT".

Porsche Crest YellowBird

Very impressive.
At the end where the long straightaway is, he must be doing about 160 or so?!?!? I liked the small amount of footage from the hood view. Too bad the instruments weren't viewable!

I think this was the moment that Porsche decided that 450hp+2 wheel drive=20 miles on one set of tires! Some people, like myself like going sideways. It could explain the new GT3 and its lack of all wheel drive. Don't discredit this guy for not being smooth, I don't think its possible in this car.

What is it with you guys and this "racetrack" mindset?

It IS possible to drive for FUN and not watch the clock every step of the way. My absolute favorite thing to do in the SC is a 4 wheel drift on my special on ramp. This car is a toy - you know, for FUN.

I have the Ruf video and would give just about anything for a drive like that. Man that would be a blast!
Stephan's driving skills are nothing short of phenominal.
Wouldn't you like to have his job?
