does this look ridiculous to you?

im building a removeable hardtop for a cab. i am using coupe windows and frames. with the top off this is what it looks like...

how do you feel about the window frames poking up out of the doors?

looks ok with the top on...

top off no frames...

targa window frame...

Yes. Looks ridiculous.

Probably would look even more ridiculous with the top off and windows rolled down!

You should work on using the Targa door frames.

Or, cut off the coupe window frames, and weld them to the top! That way, no frames when the top is off, but the frames will be there for the windows to roll up into when the top is on.

I don't want to be mean so, I will just say it looks odd, sorry just my 2 cents

i thought about that but then the door wouldnt open with the window up.

ive thought about using a coupe frame with removeable horizontal/top and rear channel. not sure how i would assemble it though.

ive also considered making a plexiglass/lexan window that includes the small quarter window portion. ive just read that it tends to scratch up quickly. as well it would likely be rickety.

thx. i asked for it.

interestingly the targa window doesnt go high enough or far enough back. i may have to do some research re wider trim/weatherstrip

I think the only odd thing is the window frames when the top is off and having the windows down. Keep the windows tinted and rolled up when the top is off?

The factory did it somehow, using the targa/cab frameless window setup.

Maybe PM this guy and ask him to send you some detailed pictures of his factory setup? Then try to duplicate it.

In terms of fit, isn't the targa door glass slightly different in size than coupe door glass? I've never compared the two side by side to see if this is the case, but it could explain why your coupe glass doesn't reach the top.

Sorry to say but yes. Other than that the car looks great. is that your finished color? If so it looks sinister. Nice work.

I believe George is correct. I think the Taga glass is different. slightly taller by about the thickness of the Coupe frame.

You could add a roll bar with fixed rear side windows that integrated the wimdow frames...

Fasten the side window frames to the top and it should be okay

Then you have both a convertible and a coupe

You're not the first one to consider the window frame solution ...

since you asked, yes, it does look awkward and ruins the otherwise great looks of your car. The Brits sometime used removable plexi windows / frames - perhaps you could google around and see if any of those solutions sparks a creative design for your application

Good luck ...

Why would you have windows up with the top down anyway? To stop the wind?!?!

I thinkit is fine. Form follows function my friend......

I like it. Reminds me of my old Series III Land Rover. Same deal when I had the top down.

You should just remove the doors, jack it up, put some balloon tires on it and go full dune buggy.

| humor? Yeah you need to ditch the coupe window frames.

Any who, I would recommend finding targa oriented pieces to fit to your hard top. From a targa top, the rubber lips which the window butts up into/against. From the targa bar, the rubber/clothy thing which goes against the B pillar. You may need to modify your sheet metal to make these pieces fit correctly against your cab/targa windows. Good luck and keep us posted.
