3.6 conversion electric help

Hello All,

Looking for some help in helping me figure out which colored wires go to the "Hall Sensor" on the distributor. My harness has what looks to be a 3-pin plug that is cut with a second 2-pin plug next to it. The 2-pin plug is the one i believe goes to the belt sensor on the fan and the other on my hand is what i believe is for the hall sensor that the 3-pin plug has been removed from.
So....
a) Confirm these are actually the wires that go to the 3-pin plug for my hall sensor
b) If this cut 3-wire i hold is for the 3pin plug which is 1, 2 and 3? and in which order. The only alternative i have investigate the hall sensor on the distributor by dissassembling it.
c) Does someone sell the connectors that slips into the distributor hall sensor 3-pin plug?

thanks in advance

Here is the engine installed (Note the hall sensor covered in blue tape)

3-wires with plug cut off (1 White ; 1 brown ; 1 bare with red fabric at bottom)

One more

a) Yes. Looks like them - white, brown and a shield (bare).
b) From the workshop manual;
1-white (+5 V to hall sensor, pin 12 on DME)
2-brown (hall sensor, pin 8 on DME)
3-shield
c) Don't know. Sorry.

FWIW, my understanding from other discussion on this board (search hall sensor), the engine will start and run without this connection, but not optimally.

Good luck!

Thanks!

a) Great
b) Exactly what I was looking for
c) My search continues...

Ah confirmation to the not so optimal situation when running hall sensor unsuccessfully. I guess in the situation my harness is in, it would be to test the connections from engine to dme connector.

dist wires

Al

I have run my 3.6 without the 3 pin connector plugged in, in the shop but not on the track. I found this drawing of the ecu connector, which might help. I have a bunch of other conversion wiring diagrams if you need more info. Do you need the plug for the Dist? I have a spare harness but I think I sent that connector to someone a while ago. I can check if you need it.

If you need the connector for the distributor check with Geoffrey Ring at the link below.
He does Motec conversions, so this would be a basic for his wiring supplies. Make sure you have the proper crimping tool for putting on the new connectors. He can advise you on this if you don't have the tool.

Thanks everyone for the schematic and lead on the plug. Hopefully I'll get the engine to start sometime this week. Got the exhaust, oil lines, throttle linkage connected.

Jerry, that's for a 964

here's the '95, US, non-vram,993 connector

According to the " '89 Carrera Service Information Technik" (WKD 495 121) manual I have, the DME unit reverts to unit stored values when a required signal is not "plausible". For the Hall Sensor, when the signal is not plausible or missing, the replacement value is as follows: "Beginning with a certain engine load, ignition timing retarded 6deg for all cylinders and knock regulation switched off"
So obviously the Hall sensor purpose is to facilitate ingnition retard when knocking occurs.
By the way, the aforementioned manual is a treasure trove of info on the 3.6 964 motor and systems. If you ever see one available, snap it up!
