distributor connector broken while removing alternator

while removing the fan housing, somehow the large round clamp slid around a bit and smashed the electrical connector going into the distributor. The plastic was apparently so brittle that it broke into about 5 pieces. Now you can see the 2 wires, I believe female connectors and a bunch of little broken plastic pieces which have possibly made it down into the hole where the connector plugs in.

Is this connector available and does anyone have a part number? Is it just a simple splice?

Hopefully someone else has made the same mistake and can guide me through the best repair method.

car is a 1974 911S. I know this picture won't help with a diagnosis, but I also know everyone loves pictures.

you'll have to splice it in because yours probably is part of the engine loom. you need a female connector and the crimp terminals for the connector. bosch # 1 287 013 003 enter that # into the search box top of the page.

Ted,

Sweet car.

You need the new connector (as listed by John Walker) don't be discouraged by the $62 price tag any attempt to rig something up will likely end up in discouragement.

If you have to splice it in it would make sense to get a female connector, so that you can easily plug or unplug it for maintenance.

Thanks for the help, guys. I just ordered the Bosch pigtail and fuel injector connector from Pelican.

Is it possible any of those little broken plastic pieces fell down inside the distributor through the hole that the connector fits into? or is this not possible?

Thanks again

Also, make sure you don't switch the shield wire with the signal wire when splicing.

While you're at it, why not service/clean your distributor?

No need to remove the small gear, everything comes out from the top.

Yours has points, I think, but the procedure is very similar:

Distributor service (Clean and lube) real easy without removing the pinion gear! - Pelican Parts Technical BBS
