get a multimeter, attach the black lead to chassis ground and see if the plug is getting power. If it is, start investigating the ground connection for the light. If not, start looking further back in the wiring.

Guys, I am a newbie to electrical issues. I have a multimeter but have never used it. Should I pull the tailight assembly out of its carrier ? What setting should I use ? Use just the black lead ? Can it go anywhere on the car to ground or does it need to go to a specific place? Sorry for my lack of knowledge..Thanks for the help !!

+1 get a good Digital Volt Meter and measure each connector, if you find a fault, then most likely it is one the PCB board type connectors in the housing itself.

Over time and replacement of the bulb or if the PO or Monkey of a Wrench pushes to deeply it will snap the board and will short the system out giving those crazy light issues. Ask me how I know

It requires you to remove the housing but leave it connected as you pull it out of the tail, just cover the paint on the bumper as not to damage the paint. There are two flat head screws that hold the rear access panel. As you pull it off you should notice PAG's caulking, that will need to be replaced as well, I just used household caulking to keep moisture out.

Then take a close look at the PCB boards for fracture or loose crimps on the wires and on the mounts. I used a cinder block, socket extension & mallet to re-tighen the sockets, rechecked the crimps and my brake light PCB was glued back together with some thin plastic and JBweld.

In my case my Brake light PCB snapped in half and was shorting on the housing giving me crazy brake light issues. Most of the sockets were loose as well so they were tightened.
