![]() ![]() They are not threaded and appear to "float". Do they go here? ![]() And I guess I need another one...any body have an extra? Speedo |

speedo,
If I remember correctly, those get inserted into the squirter hole (am I allowed to say that?) before the squirter is installed. regards, al

weird screw
Thanks guys, can you post a picture of where it goes? I'm not familiar with the squirter hole and the squirter. Bob, I need one of these...I think. Maybe the missing guy is still stuck in the squirter hole...where do I look?

Gently pull your squirter out with a pair of pliers (don't twist on the nozzle, it can break off).....Just wiggle back and forth; pull up and out. It under there. Bet it's still there, just didn't fall out like the other when you turned the carb upside down......PM if you need one.

squirter
The plug (item 22) that you are looking for gets inserted into a hole that is adjacent to the main barrel(s) of the carb. The squirter (item 21) get inserted into the same hole and is sealed with an o-ring.
If you identify these two components, in the illustration below and draw a line, straight down from them, to the top surface of the main body of the carb, you will see a hole adjacent to the main barrel/hole.....that is where they are installed. It is common for the plugs to get stuck in there. ![]()

You guys rock!
This morning I had the carbs completely diassembled and boxed to be dishwashed at a buddy's shop. A light came on (brainwise) and I figured the squirter to be the 90 dergree nozzle. I went out and grabbed the box with the carb bodies and looked down into the squirter holes. On one bank I could see daylight through all the holes, on the other bank, could only see daylight twice...bingo. Took it back into the shop and with a long thin screwdriver...got it loose enough to drop out
![]() So when I reinstall these, is the orientation of the slot on top important? Al, I watched the build of your engine...very cool. Good luck with the sale! With all the parts and effort you put into it...doesn't look like you are being paid much for your efforts. Or is it just to get your $$ back so you can move on with the next engine project? So...whats next? Lars |

No, slot position is not important, they basically act as a "check-valve"....I figured it would be in there....G'luck

Lars,
Congrats on finding the elusive part. I always would forget those little buggers were down there. I do not believe the orientation of the groove to be important. i suspect that these little plugs are used to "float" upwards to allow fuel to flow to the squirters, and then when there is no pump pressure, to seat and not allow the fuel to back flow...I.E. to keep some fuel at the ready. (I see that Bob beat me to this and explained it far more clearly....as a check valve) It looks like the engine is sold and will head to California. I have to admit that I am working cheap on this one, but as you suspected...I am ready to move on. I have a couple of things brewing, but one thing that I want to do is upgrade...or maybe in this case it's downgrade (make more street-able) my suspension a bit. A nice winter project on the 73. I also have the makings for another strange EFI intake system that will marry turbo injector/spacer blocks with MFI throttle bodies and Weber stacks, megasquirt, EDIS etc. This will probably be done on a 2.0 or 2.2. I also have a friend that wants me to EFI his 356 engine....so we will see. It's all good to me. Good luck with the Zeniths. regards, PS: I've spent some quality time in Boulder, in the winter of 1970. I've have friends there and I've been back once or twice.....a great town.

one more zenith question for you...
Got my zeniths dishwashed today and had access to a bead blast cabinet to clean out some of the accumulated crap in the bottom of the float bowls. My buddy at the shop looked at the cold start device on the side of the carb and said "ignore it". He pointed out that the 3 small lines at the feet of the carbs next to the air adjustment screws were plugged. So this device bolts to the center of the carbs midway up...there is an O ring that joins it to the carb body. On the outside of it are 3 small fuel lines that would normally connect to the similar lines below. If the lower lines are intentionally blocked, what do I do to the three lines coming from the device? Do I block them, ignore them? If not blocked will the carbs try to spew fuel? Probably a dumb question...thanks for the help. I can post a pic if that would help. FWIW...the carbs came out nice.

No need to block the upper lines. Leave as it.....G'luck.

Hey I thought you were building an E engine with MFI. Why are you futzing around with Zeniths now?
