So I listened to everyone, but...
My 89 has 121,300 miles on it. I have no clue what kind of oil the po used, but the car was well maintained.I am the second owner, and the service records(extensive) don't show any head/motor work. I switched over to Brad Penn about 1200 miles ago, and I have noticed smoking on start up. I have used two quarts of "green" oil since that oil change. No oil on the ground, no noticeable leaks. I figure the owners manual , says check oil with every gas fill up, so oil usage is normal. Is this normal? Did the "green " oil free things up? Or is this just coincidence?

Let it idle for 15-20 seconds before shutting it down. Once in a great while it will still smoke a bit upon start-up, but not often if you get into this habit. Let me know that I am right.

Oil smoke at start is common after a 911 sits for a few days. As long as it doesn't continue to smoke you are probably ok.
Do you know how to properly check the oil level? (Car at normal temp, on level ground, idling with the parking brake engaged). Overfilling with oil can cause smoking as well. By "green" do you mean the Brad Penn or some other brand claiming to be eco-friendly "green".

And I might add that yes, BP is the new green....sorta. But seriously, Oh Haha is right about getting the oil level right! Don't fill it to the 'top' at running temps., either; keep it as he mentioned, level car, warm and all that, but DON'T fill beyond midpoint on the dipstick. Either dipstick, you or the one in the tank....just kidding!!!!
Keep learnin', it's what it's all about! Enjoy the journey and your car.......
