Mystery speedster

This Speedster, build by a Stan Townes, is featured in the photo gallery of Bruce Andersons Performance Handbook.
According to the caption, it was shown at the 1971 Oakland Roadster Show.

Is there any knowledge out there about this cool car. Pictures is even better.

I'd love to get some more info.....

I think there's a picture of that car in Bruce Anderson's 911 book.

saw the car bring driven along ventura boulevard about 10-12 years ago- looked just the same as when it was in articles. There is an article on it in Porsche Sport publication that was published in the 70's. It went into detail on how a 356 windshield frame was modified to work, the bumper treatment etc. cannot remember the issue- sorry

I've seen it on the West side of L.A within the past 8-9 years. Lots of bondo and prior poor repairs. But a great concept.

When I lived in the Bay Area I saw it shortly after it was built. Stan Townes had bought the body shop from one of the local Porsche dealerships. he got a rollover Targa -- a '67, I believe -- and built his vision.

There is a real good thread on 911 speedsters right here on this forum. Lots and lots of pics. Frankly, I have little luck with the new search system when I KNOW there is something to find.

Was featured in Road & Track eons ago.....I recall it was built from a wreck. Lone effort with a single example.

Dave,

That wasn’t me on Ventura Blvd but I did drive
it at a Porsche Parade in the ‘70s. It is much
better looking in real life but it is SO BIG
compared to a 356 Speedster.

It looks and feels like a 35/32 scale model.

PS That is the Bursch pipe I use on my 911. Does it sing!

going a little OT here , but the best looking 911 based roadster/ cab imho, is the bertone styled version. It is just soo cool- italian design with german engineering! Burgundy one off - saw it at Pebble Beach one year . It looks like a good looking overgrown fiat 850 spider with hide away headlamps (of course bertone designed the fiat as well)

Is anyone making a aftermarket 89 or 94 Speedster windshield yet? I'm working on a speedster now and I'm going to make an aluminum removable hardtop for it when I have more time.
