What's the proper tension on alternator belt
My friend, who has experience with 911's tells me that my alternator belt is too loose and that I should move one shim from the rear to the front.
I'm just wondering if there is a standard method for setting the tension (like, once tightened, you should be able to turn the engine by turning the alt pulley). I'm just wondering. January will be my car tuneup month so I will be replacing the belt with a new one so I'd like to hear from the collective experts. Thanks............Vern |

There are technical articles on this site covering subjects such as the one you ask about. It is easy to find this information with a simple search.
The answer is that you should be able to deflect the belt 10 to 15mm using your thumb, halfway between the pulleys.
