Question RE: Car washing and water in heat exchangers

I'm just wondering if this is normal and if not, what can I do.

Every time I wash my car, when I startup afterwards, the windows fog up - the entire car and takes at least 15 minutes to burn off.

I guess I will cut back on the amount of rinsing I do with the front hood vent but I'm wondering what is the problem.

I know for sure that all of the heater hoses to the exchangers are connected and tight. Everythng in the front trunk looks to be connected properly. No water is getting into the cabin.......what gives? This is annoying as hell.

Raise the rear safely and use jack stands, ask a helper to lift and lower the heat levers. The heater flaps should close and open completely.

I suspect the flap/s are staying open allowing the vapors from the burn off to get into the cab. Once they close properly it will not allow any air from the heat exchangers up the plumbing.

Thanks! I know that the flappers are not closing and that is on my to-do list of fixes. I didn't think water would get in that way as I'm not spraying there...but. I didn't think about runoff water.

Remember as you wash and water gets into the rear lid vents then it makes its way down to the heat exchangers.

I am suffering a similar issue with my '87.....could it be from the front fresh air vent at all or is it for sure it's from the rear??

I end up having to have the defrost blower running (between the seat, rotary 3 position) and also the fresh air vent to clear.....and once cleared it never returns..

And it's mostly straight after washing, although after a heavy downpour (if she's allowed out to play when rain comes......)

Yes, Brother Neil, that is the only place vapors from heated water will come from. I bet you will notice the flaps not close when you are under there, but it is much easier to notice with a helper at the levers. The cables stretch or debris lodges at the flaps not allow a complete closure.
