Voodoo Child (Slight Return)

One of my favorite albums, Electric Ladyland, has a song called Voodoo Child and another called Voodoo Child (Slight Return). While Hendrix was recording Voodoo Child, somewhere in there while jamming, a new song just kind of emerged and took a life of it's own.

My wife likes to name my cars. Voodoo Child started off pretty basic, just a 12 bar blues, if you will:

But some fiddling around a few years ago turned it into something pretty special:

A nice car to be sure, see it's feature in the November 2006 Excellence if you want more details. But some projects are never done. I've spent the past year slowly fiddling with the car, adding and changing small details, basically jamming. And somewhere in there, something new is starting to emerge.

Here's a teaser shot from today. Voodoo Child (Slight Return) has begun.

I have some ideas but I don't know exactly where this journey will end up over the next several months. I'm open to suggestions and ideas and I have some excellent jamming partners including some guy named Freddie some of you may know. I can't wait to see what we come up with.

It's a beautiful car. I wish I had known Larry was selling it.
Congratulations!

A couple more teaser pics. If there is one thing we've learned, it's that NOTHING is "bolt-on" or "just fits" or lines up if you are the least bit picky or detail oriented.

If you want to get technical about it, the original is Voodoo Chile and the Slight Return is Voodoo Child. Either way, I love what you are doing with it.

That's going to be one Foxy Lady, especially with the Fuchs.

Lol, I joked in an earlier post that nothing ever fits just right or bolts on as expected. Castles Made of Sand....

This is especially true if your flares are not quite normal Turbo flares. Hey, that's close enough, right? Not.

Glass work incoming.

Note to self: Next time, convince yourself that the rubber hood latches look really cool and retaining a metal hood and moving the latch location is overkill...or use a fiberglass hood. It's, uhh, lighter! Yeah that's the ticket.

I guess the good news is that we're more than halfway and I'm just now going over budget. That must be a record for me, usually I'm going over much closer to the beginning. "If 6 was 9" it would look like my project spreadsheet.
