Porsche door thud
I now know where the porsche door gets it classic sound when closing.
I have been stipping my doors to lighten for a race door. Removed the glass and all the regulator system and still the door had the classic thud sound when it closed. Last night I decided to remove the sound pads from the inside bottom of the door. The had become pretty stuck and brittle so a little heat from a heat gun and a razor scraper and they came right out. Now however the doors when shut sound completely different just like any old car door. So there you have it the door sound appears to and effect of the dampening pads.

I always thought it was the latch mechanism. Even after slamming my fiberglass doors I can still hear that "chiink" of the latch resonating for just a second after the bang of the fiberglass.

I thought it was the combination of the beefy door latch and the fixed window frame.
A '57 Chevy has a similar sound with an added "blap" due to the SS, water flap thingymabob that closes over the window frame when you close the door.

Anti-resonance bituminous pré-stuck pads.
Used also in your bathroom.................under the bath, stuck on it.

I know this is not the right forum for this comment, but, the 356s have a rubber damper in the middle of the fender that makes that sound.
