Hey! Where can I get those?

On eBay, there's a 1970 911T with 4-speed transmission (yep, it was offered at one time). But in the pictures, the guy shows that he doesn't have rear seats, but the seat-delete option of 2 closed compartments under a parcel shelf. I know this was available back in the day, but these look new! Is there a kit for this still available somewhere? I e-mailed the seller but haven't heard back yet.

Hmmm, he's also got the rare "Zolex" carb option . I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that rear seat layout is not original. -- Curt

There's a rear seat delete/parcel shelf on the '89 Club Sports as well. Could be the same one? Let me know what you find. I'm thinking about ditching the rear seats in my car.

It's a decent car, and as I've indicated, I don't mind the non-original rear interior. However, the car is closing in on a rebuild, depending on it's maintenance history, and that 4-speed wasn't popular for a reason; it's got to be murder staying in the power band with the T engine (120 hp that year, iirc) and those gears.

I am almost certain the one on the E-Bay advert was from an RS America or similar. I tried very hard but couldn't find a good picture of one though (I found text but no pics referring to them).

A friend ordered this option on his 993 Carrera 2S. That was the last year of 993 production (1997?) so it was still an option then. It might have been Sonderwunsch, though.

That's the problem John. It would cost someone $100-150 to make one of those, and they would charge $500-600 for it. I guess it's not really a problem, it's just how it works

The four speed box was the standard gearbox...a few bucks extra was charged for the 5 speed, forget the exact amount...but the vast majority of cars imported into the USA came with the "optional" 5 speed....

I know of a couple 4 speed 915's in 2.7L cars.

Cool, Bob- I have that exact part, and have been wondering whether it was original or not (not, mine is a '73, but at least it is a Porsche part). Its really nice, having the extra, secure storage, and it would be easy for any DIY'er with reasonable skills to make. Just curious: any idea what one of these is worth?

Regarding the rear seat delete option, the one pictured on that car looks more like the one in my "92 Cab.

my dealer's info pocketbook for '92 says that all cabriolets had the rear seat delete in '92.

These are available from some of the used parts places.

I have actually been thinking of replacing mine with seats, but not sure of all the parts i need.

Same here...that rear 'deposit' doesn't look OE to me.

FWIW one of my college buddies/former roommates had a 70T coupe 4spd for a while, and in that car the 4spd trans seemed like a good fit. In my E 5spd, 1st gear is not terribly useful, 4th gear seems a little long, and 5th gear is a little short. The T engine is somewhat torquier than the E and S in the lower rev ranges, and although it's personal preference, I certainly would not shun a nice T just because it's equipped with the four-speed.

PAP sells these on EBAY all the time I think you could go to there website and skip all the bidding. I don't recall the price it was addvertisied for a cabrio last time I saw it.

I seen that auction a few days back. If it weren't for the 4-Speed I'd love to have that car for my next project! However the 4-Speed can easily be replaced.
