Part # help (I have a diagram)
Ok, trying to do the common shifter bushing replacement and, of course, nothing is ever as easy as it seems. One of the bolts (#20) holding the shift rod bracket (#21) to the bottom of the shifter assembly (#1) was completely rounded. I was able to drill it out but now need the replacement. Again, this is one of the two bolts that holds the shifter rod bracket to the shifter housing, not one of the 3 that hold the housing to the tunnel.
I'm sure I could find the right thread pitch and length at the hardware store but not sure if a standard hex head bolt would fit in the relief cut into the shifter base. ![]() |

you should be able to find a local source allen head cap bolt. If not, then you can buy one from Porsche, but totally not necessary. In other words, replace the bolt with the right size, but they are commonly available.

Really? I knew I could find a hex head, but didn't think allen head bolts were that common. I'll give it a shot at the local hardware stores tomorrow. Thanks for the help.

You don't have the year of your car listed in your signature. So, I'm assuming you have a '74 like me.
Part number for #20 Bolt is 900.067.011.02 Part number for #21 Bearing Bracket is 930.424.031.00 To look these up, go to Pelican Parts>click on the parts diagram>Select the year/model of your car>go to the pedals & levers section of the PET Catalog. Once you find the part numbers, go back to pelican and plug them into the search window and you will get a price. |

Nate,
When you say hardware store are you talking about like a home depot or lowes, because they wont have it. A good local place may depending on there selection. From there I would go to an auto parts store and see if they can order you one, I used to work at a carquest we did not stock stuff like this but we could get it with in the day if need be. Make sure you know the pitch and size you need. The other thing you may want to do is find a local hardware distributor. I know around me there is a place about 20min away that deals just hardware (nuts/bolts/strange fittings) mostly for contractors and stuff. If I'm looking for something strange they usually have it. Stores like this can be hard to find and are usually found out about through word of mouth, but ask around some one may know of one by you. Regards Dave

You said you have 2 of those bolts the same at that location. Just take the good one to a local fastener specialist and they can match it up for you. Do a yellow pages search for metric fasteners in your area and make a few calls.

Long ago I bought a bunch of hex and socket head bolts (by the box) from McMaster-Carr.
6mm...8mm...10mm in several lengths each. As you go through the car fixing or upgrading bits and pieces I like to use new hardware wherever possible. It just makes the job go faster and looks better as well. Bob

FWIW: A lot of hardware stores (think Ace, True Value, Do-It-Center, etc.) will carry what you need . . . but if you can't find something locally (or if you know what you want and prefer to order online) you might try:
Metric socket products - Bolt Depot HTH
