A cry for help or a crying shame?

I'm ashamed at the caliber of discussing going on at Pelican forums these days.

People are checking out of here in numbers!

Warren's Annie is just being reborn, and if Warren was watching, he would be thrilled to see that thread, but I'll bet disgusted with the sniping and one-upmanship and outright attacks that go on within most of the other threads.

This used to be a great place to enjoy common enthusiasm for these cars and everything about them. It used to be a place to learn, and then pay it forward in our own build threads as we uncover tips or pass along others.

The heavy technical hitters and true Porsche legends don't seem to participate anymore, and I don't blame them.

Very sad. This may be my last visit for a long while. I'm tired of stumbling across so much bickering in every forum here and many threads. Why are so many people so upset at the world? Everyone used to be enthusiastic and helpful. What happened over the last 14 years?

I don't think I am the only one heading for the exits lately. Please lets leave the garbage for some other forums and preserve what this place was. Please

Hey Wayner -

Well - it's too bad you want to leave. I'm not seeing that myself. Maybe I'm just not reading the right threads. I saw one that a guy just deleted where people were telling him he's a wanna-be speed racer, driving like a wild man. And I saw some sniping on Magnus' magnum thread, on page 137 or something like that. But for the most part, I don't see that. I like the forum. My current favorite thread is Speedo's Softie conversion (beautiful car). I've been around here for a few years, and I just saw the thread on replacing the fuel lines on a 3.2 Targa. It was here that I discovered the greats: North Hollywood Speedo, Witchhunter Performance, Kuehl, etc...

Just be careful of over generalizing. In every group, you get a mix: good people, bad people, trolls, etc.. You just have to be able to separate the wheat from the chaff.

Ken

I have to agree with your observations, but if you go back a few years when searching/researching a topic you will come across a lot of similar "banter".
Personally I ignore it and move on looking for something useful I can learn or contribute to.
I have noticed a number of the long time respected members/posters have stopped responding to posts. I think it may be due to a lot of the topics having been covered multiple times and with a little searching the answers are available to the people asking...
(Tired of posting the same thing over and over...)

This is a very timely commentary. I have been appalled at many of the comments that should be in 'off topic', if anywhere on this forum, but they certainly don't belong in the technical discussions that PP is noted for.

You are right; although at times I am able to learn and solve problems, too often what I see is garbage, and it's sad. Maybe, by chance, I have stumbled upon topics that attract such remarks, but I doubt it.

At the same time, similar junk can be found on any discussion forum, on any topic. I guess I should be glad for the good, and should ignore the rest.

I blame Congress.,

But seriously, I check the forums every day and I'm not seeing a widespread degradation. Like Ken said, maybe I'm not reading the right threads.

^^^ If you recognize stupidity, it's easier to ignore it. I come here often, and have not been put off by occasional sniping. I still see too much good here. Tons of camaraderie and technical generosity. timmy2 is probably right about experts getting tired of answering the same unsearched-for question for the thousandth time. And while Kidasters was posting about the street-racer guy, I was trying to figure out the new guy's deal but as Kidasters said, the thread was deleted.

This is still a great place.

I've noticed some posters becoming testy and short. I guess there's much on everyone's minds. Here is a place to relax, share and enjoy common views. I'm on many forums and see this becoming more and more common place.

Well I for one appreciate the shared knowledge from you guys who have worked on and own pcars for years.
I visit the tech forum daily and learn something new each time.
Did a lot reading before purchasing my car a few years back.
And I really enjoy it.
Thanks guys.

As I said earlier, I tend to skim over the BS and move on to something meaningful like Norm's vision of the Pelican Lounge.
Thank you Wayne and all the pelicans

Its not Bush's fault, its because of ObamaCare

I've been on this board for a few years now.
On the technical side it seems that everyone is helping those who need the help or guideness.
The Off Topic is pretty calm for the most part. And the PARF, well thats full-on gloves off mud slingin' .
Maybe you're just having a bad day.

I think the humor, appreciation and insight that run through this thread is what this forum is all about. Glad to be here to witness it y'all (even if it doesn't belong on the tech forum).

I've been using car forums for years and sadly its par for the course. From BMW to VW everyone like to crap on you when you dont use the "search" feature. For every forum thug there are 50 other guys that always prove a great resource. Just have to ignore those who choose to bully others.

The comments made on this thread link below, make me want to move on. I just don't understand the lack of thought behind rude comments. If your having a bad day, go to bed, maybe things will be brighter in the am.
