Mine match. Are you sure you're getting a "good read"? Those crazy Germans use some pretty weird fonts.

I'm not familiar with later VIN's but from reading this forum, it's typical for the stamped VIN to have the "Z's" in the sequence and the pillar VIN to have other letters and digits in the location of the "Z's." I has to do with pre-production chassis id's or foreign deliveries, I think, but it's nothing to be concerned about. Someone will post the exact reason for the difference very soon, I'm certain.

The chassis VIN numbers moved to just above the fuel tank in 1981 and no longer match the pillar VIN. The pillar and door jam VIN is the number that appears on the title. This info comes from Bruce Anderson's Porsche 911 Performance Handbook.

It's perfectly fine to have WP0ZZZ.... stamped on the trunk tag near the smugglers box. All chassis start out as rest-of-world (ZZZ) cars. However during assembly the USA items get installed, including the other WP0 tag on the windshield. The key is having the same (last 6) production numbers! My 87 has this designation and also the USA serial number on the removeable body panels.

This is great news
![]() ![]() The car is getting a full repaint and I was seriously gutted when I saw the chassis # was not the same a the windshield tag. The pillar number does indeed match the door jam number . What a relief. Thanks again |

I have the 'zzz' in both due to a grey market status. Puts the DMV in a tizzy.
