Alignment after Turbo tie rod upgrade?

I finished the installation of the turbo tie rods. Just had a question about the alignment. I called the local garage and the mechanic said he only had specs for 1985 and newer 911s. Mentioned something about older models having to have weight added for the alignment and that I should probably take to the Porsche dealer??? Anybody know about this?

Also, I found the easiest way to remove the old tie rods. Get a buddy to bend down the old tie rod and put pressure in a counter clockwise position while you are under the car with a flat punch and tapping (like H*ll) in the same direction on the slotted washer. After struggling with the passenger side by my lonesome, I had my son help in this way with the drivers side and it broke free immediately...fwiw. This was easier because of the limited space to try and get the spanner wrench (tried the bike wrench too) in there.

Hi Chris,

I did my tie rods last weekend. After I was finished I took my car along to my local body shop along with a photocopy of the alignment specs from the user manual. They charged me £30 (about $50) to align the front. Maybe you should do the same?

How does your steering feel now?, I noticed a big improvement, much more precise and responsive.

Cheers,

Tim.
