R/P question
I have my old 72 tranny sitting in my garage that I could not sell since I have no clue what the R/P is in, shape wise, is there an easy way to tell if it's shot?
Thanks

There is a way to figure it out counting the revolutions of the main shaft to the turning axle. If you have a book on the various gears, it can be figured out quite easily. Is it a 901 or a 915 transmission? Bruce Anderson's handbook has many gear charts.

I know it's a 7:31, just trying to figure out if there is an easy way to break it open to check and see if it's sellable or trash.

Then put it in the car and try it out............ Sorry, I don't know any other way. Maybe a transmission specialist can answer this.

Remove the large round cover plate and look at the ring gear (31 teeth) and the pinion shaft (7 teeth). They should be clean and smooth with sharp edges. Look closely in the valley walls of each tooth. Again there should be no scarring or gouge marks.
