Fuch part number
I have a set of 16x7 and x8 but how do I know they are from 911, not 944. I have tried to search on this site, but can't find my answer. Please help.

If the part number begins with 951 ... it is from a 944. And if it begins with 911 ...

I wonder, what is the difference then? Are they different looking rims? Built different? Or just numbered different for the sake of record-keeping? Thanks!

Where they are from and part #s are really not important except for record keeping /conversation. The important thing to know is the offsets. For the front of a 911 the factory has always used +23.3 mm for their 7 & 8 inch rims in either 15 or 16 inch sizes. For the back +10.6 mm 8" rims were used and +15 mm 9" rims were used, again in 15 or 16"
Custom offsets in 17/18 " sizes will not be too far from the factory #s but must be more critically implemented due to decreasing margin for error in the larger sizes. It would be really interesting to see what offsets the 8.5x17 front Fikse and 10x17 rear Fikse users have? All true Fuchs will have the os #s and forging #s embossed on the back of one of the paddles. Look for ET23.3, ET10.6, ET15 etc. Sherwood Lee has kindly posted most of the wheel info that you could want at; Sherwood Lee's wheel page

A visual clue that the wheels are 951 type fuchs without looking at the part number on the backs of the wheels is that the lugs on both the 7x16 and 8x16 951 wheels are counter-sunk the same as the 9x16 930 fuchs.
