more front camber enquiry
I am confused after reading all the threads.
I just have stock front camber adjustment at the moment on my track car. I am running around 1.25 front and 2.5 rear. The handling is pretty good now and no sledging in the front - but the tire wear is uneven - outers wearing before the inner half on the fronts. I have no more camber adjust. So, I don't know how much more I want but 0.5 -1.0 should be plenty to get better tire wear (and hopefully better grip again). Should I be looking for mono balls or offset plates? I don't get how the mono balls give more neg camber, unless they are already off set. In which case do I just need the offset plates? Thanks Alan

Alan,
I just finished installing some Tarret camber plates on my 89 as i'm shooting for -2 front and -2.5 rear with the Cambermax adjusters that i will be adding as well ... I was running -1.5 front and -2.0 rear last year with Dunlop Star Specs and after 14 track days and street driving my tire wear was even ... except for a severe flat spot on the right front ... lol I won't be going for an alignment until next month so i can't yet comment on how easily i will achieve the numbers i want, but from the feedback on the forums this is the easy way to go ! Cheers ! Phil

What is your front toe set at? most wear occurs with improper toe settings

I was running 1/16 toe in on each corner front and rear ... and max castor at 5.8 and 5.9 left and right fronts and had even tire wear, that would be a good base to start !
Cheers ! Phil

The front and rear toe are totals of both sides . 1/16 equates to about 1.5mm per each side = about 3 mm front and rear. I am running less in the front. Casters are 5.4 and 4.8 (can't get anymore out of the 4.8).
Should I be running more toe in the front? Alan

Set the front toe to ZERO, that should do the trick.

Monoballs are just the bearings. If you get just the monoballs and put them in the stock plates camber will not change. They also sell offset camber plates that fit in the stock fender and have monoballs already installed. These have the bearing offset towards the inside. The idea is that the stock plate hits the chassis before the bearing touches the side of the hole in the top of the inner fender. With the offset plate, you are able to get those last fractions of an inch.
If you want more camber than that you need to do some cuttin' and weldin' to instal camber boxes (and a strut brace).

0.3 mm is about 10 thou - total of both sides. Will pulling 10 thou out really make a difference?
Thanks Max, that clears it up. Looks like I need to find some offset plates. Don't think I need a heap but a bit more will be good to play with and I am maxed out at the moment. Alan
