after a few shakedown drives, take the long suffering lady for a vacation trip (spring break); use phrases like "I know this has been stressful/troublesome/yadayada for you so I wanted to make sure the rist trip was <whatever she esp. likes to do>"

this will make the next project (engine hotrod?) a LOT more acceptible

Hi JB! Thanks for the interest and kind words. I am glad you have enjoyed the thread. My wife suggested doing a photoshoot with the Rat and I will post pictures as soon as it happens. I hope to be driving it every day here soon.

When you take that drive to (or thru) Tampa to see Jeremy, let me know, we should hook up for pictures...

my wife's 912 is almost done too:

and I could pay Jeremy a visit too, haven't seen the blue beast in person !

Day 99: Today the glass installers finished off the windshield and rear glass!! All that is left now is a new brake master cylinder that arrived yesterday, a nice detail and wax and an appraisal. I will be installing the brake master cylinder on Saturday and Peter is coming over to detail on Sunday. The appraisal is scheduled for Tuesday and then it is time to drive the hell out of the Rat!! Here are some pictures of the Rat with glass installed.

Hi Randy,

If you recall my wife is a PhD student which means she does not get a spring break. I plan on doing something like you suggested but it will need to wait until this summer.

That sounds like a great idea. Your wife's car is looking fantastic.

Kristoph,

The "RAT" is looking unbelievable, congratulations on your relentless journey to transform an orphan into a beautiful restoration. This car truely won the lottery when you stumbled upon the "RAT" in the highlands of New Mexico.

Looking forward to detailing and rubbing the new paint tomorrow!

Congrats! ...and I have to say I'm a little (selfishly) sad to see your project all wrapped up. I hope this isn't the end of this epic thread. I have thoroughly enjoyed catching up on it everyday.

Deschodt: Where are you located? That's a fantastic 912. I'd love to see it sometime if you're local. Please come by our shop for a beer anytime :)

Thanks Peter! Without your help I would still be miles away from completion. Once the Rat is on the road we need to focus on your "Yellow Submarine"

Day 100: Replacing the brake master cylinder and fixing brake fluid damage. Today I was able to remove the old brake master cylinder that was leaking, clean up the mess from the brake fluid eating paint in the pedal cluster and area below the pedal cluster, replaint both the pedal cluster and area below the pedal cluster, install the new brake master cylinder and bleed the brakes. Overall it was a highly successful Saturday. My buddy Tom was able to help me bleed the brakes which took a while since I didn't bench bleed the new master cylinder:mad: The pedal feel is amazing and the stopping power is fantastic. I think my brake system is finally feeling like it should. Here are a few pictures of the leaking brake master cylinder disaster.

All cleaned up with Oshpo and primer and repainted

The appraiser comes tomorrow morning!! Peter and I will be detailing the car tonight so it is nice and shiny. After Tuesday it will be time to drive the Rat as much as possible:D:D

RWebb 02-11-2013 12:13 PM

stick a light bulb up there on the front of the panel - look thru from the cabin & make sure it is all sealed well so outside spray cannot get in

post # 50 - http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/450565-yet-another-boring-rgruppe-car-part-ii-suspension-3.html

# 34 and a couple of others show what lurks beneath an apparently rust free area; you need to lift the cluster up to inspect

note the use of dum dum to help seal around the area

kkinzli 02-12-2013 10:45 AM

The appraiser came this morning! I am waiting for his email so I can take it to my insurance company and start driving the Rat!!:D:D

kkinzli 02-13-2013 10:34 AM

I took the Rat to my soccer game last night and drove it into work today!!!:D:D

Kristoph,

I've been following this thread (quietly) and am delighted for you the way it turned out. So does having it "finished" feel unreal/strange/elating(?!) or something else?

Congratulations on a great story and a great ride. You've inspired me to take some things on....

timmy2 02-13-2013 12:46 PM

Congratulations on getting the Rat completed in less than a year from where you started posting, great journey and very well done.

gnashings 02-13-2013 02:54 PM

I'm one of the silent "lurkers"(so much knowledge on this forum that I just shut up and "listen" lol), but I've been religiously following this thread and just can't help myself, I had to chime in with a huge congratulations and an even bigger thank you for sharing this amazing journey. I have learned a lot and have to add that it seems you have a very positive and inspiring way about you, so seeing this project come to life was especially enjoyable and satisfying! Your students are truly fortunate as I'm sure you bring the same enthusiasm and energy into all your endevours! Beautiful car and a job beyond well done, my hat goes off to you, Sir!
