same (general) reason someone would want to tear into and fix up an old car

best wishes - it is not an easy field to get a job in, but you will be able to support her by fixing up and selling old cars

great story ! the rat looks like its in great shape for it's age , You will have lots of fun, and it's simpler than most people think, with some skills, Good luck

Great thread!

Nice storytelling and congratulations on your car!

If you are curious about the uniqueness of the 69 model year, you may want to check out the thread I started on the Early S Registry. It's full of facts and impassioned opinions on this special year for the 911.

What makes a 1969 911 unique?

Keep it up!

I am not so sure about that. I make a decent living as an engineering professor but the extra money she makes as a TA has helped us do a lot of home improvements and now saving the Rat!

Thanks! The Rat is in overall great shape and I only have to do some minor welding. I will try to post some more pictures in a few minutes. I love working on the Rat because it is so simple. I think once I get it done I will drive it more than the A4 as I can fix anything on the Rat. Even if the engine goes I can buy a used one and swap it in over a weekend! Try that on an A4. It takes all weekend to do anything on that car

Thanks for the well wishes and encouragement. I really do love the 69s because they are the first of the LWB cars but most of all they have a one year only electrical system which makes getting parts really easy;)

Thanks for a great thread on 69 cars. What a lot of cool tidbits there were in that thread. I was aware of some but what a list you put together:)

Day 7: Stripping and door rail trim. There was an interesting surprise here as I know that the owner that got the car repainted red was named Doll. Paging Mr. Doll or a woman named Doll! If anyone in NM knows a Doll please let me know! Lot of good apprentice pictures on this day:)

Drilling out rivets for door trim

Day 7 continued:

Here is where Noah got the camera! He is such a spirited little Padawan;)

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1330523267.jpg

Kienzle watch that I have had for 10 years. I got it back when I was in college in Germany. Almost matches my clock in the dash:)

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1330523296.jpg

Which bag does that screw go in? At this point I have used over 300 Ziploc Bags ($30 bucks total). I made sure to get the ones with the slider to lock the bag shut as these will not randomly open and I can close them easily with grimy hands. More money but worth it! I attach the bags to car parts with zip ties so they can't fall off:cool:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1330523331.jpg

Here is the revealing picture of the previous owner Doll. I keep thinking the car belonged to Barbie at some point:D

Day 7 continued again:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1330523546.jpg

Looks like Barbie drove the Rat against a post or car and scrapped up the door! Notice the significant oil spot under the A4. It is almost like a Porsche - you know it has oil in it because it is dripping on my driveway! I always have to try and park in the same spot so it doesn't get everywhere. I don't really worry about fixing it as the car has almost 250,000 on it. At some point I will post ridiculous A4 pictures

Thanks! I am going for slate grey - Like McQueens car. I figure there are too many flashy Porsches out there and want a nice simple color. Plus the car is the Rat - can you think of a better color?;) I have already dropped the front suspension and am hoping to restore A Arms this weekend. Will post pics soon!

Ridiculous pictures of the Rats little brother the "Black Knight". We actually call it the Black Kaniget - like in Monty Python. Some of these were taken on my old school flip phone (which I still use to this day:p) and are not the best quality
