Reviving Sunvisors?

Has anyone come up with a way to revive those sad looking wrinkled sunvisors? Maybe inject something that will fill the voids?

I've been wondering the same thing. There is a place that will do it for $75 in NY but they don't look factory as they put a sewn seam around the edge.

These things are way overbuilt, how about something cheap in hard plastic?

Hmmmmm...I have a box full of Karmann Ghia sunvisors. I'll take a look and see if there is a possibility that they can be adapted to a 911.

I've read on the forum that some people have slit them open, re-stuffed them and then glued them back together. Has anyone tried to melt them back together using a vacuum sealer? You know the sealers that are used to package food for the freezer in plastic bags.

I had my last set recovered by the trim shop and they were excellent. But I also thought that there must be some way of fixing them and that maybe it would be worth trying to inject some expanding foam that is used for masonry sealing. As it cures it expands. Then place the visor between two boards set with a gap of, say, 7mm or whatever the right thickness for the finished visor should be.
I figure as the foam expands it will puff up the sunvisor and excess foam will squeeze out and can be cut off. I'm going to get some old visors and try the theory.....

Send a message via AIM to NoLift911
So are these actually available in OEM form? If so for what years? Or NLA?

Buy a set of used ones in any color and repaint with vinyl paint. I've just turned some later models (sliding mirror covers) maroon into flat black (perfect match to stock)for my '83 SC. All of the later 911 that have similar mounts fit.
I tried (saw a tip) refilling with a spray hole sealing foam but it didn't turn out. They took 2 weeks to dry out and ended up looking just as bad...lumpy. Not enough air can get in to allow quick drying/shaping...maybe a quick dry spray foam of another sort....I used the Ace hardware variety

I used the link above for Vinyl specialties a few years back, they were awesome, turnaround time and quality of work was very sweet!!! 2 years later and my visors look just like when they sent them, if you are a purist than keep looking, they sew the ends and are not like the original style but to each their own, I am very happy how mine turned out, I would do the same thing in a heart beat!!! I have a targa and the time my visors are in the sun it worked out better for something that could weather the elements given the time they are pounded by the sun, if I can find a decent priced pair of good condition ones I would buy, these are nice...
