Good going Colby. IMHO, stick with Protomotive for the CHIP and FPR. They are the gurus on how the Motronic stuff works, especially with turbocharging the 3.2 Carrera.
My setup is so refined, power delivery is so smooth and linear and I think a lot of that has to do with the mapping in the CHIP and the way it works in conjunction with their proprietary furl press regulator. Sure, you can go with another solution, but it probably won't be as refined as the Motronic setup that P'motive design. If you don't wanna skimp on fuel and ignition management, go Protomotive. Plug and play really and no need to re-wire in complex fuel/ignition controllers. To let you know how refined it is, my mechanic commented on my setup and said "Your car feels just like that modified RUF BTR with the RUF Motronic. VERY smooth and linear power delivery. It's a great setup!" Just my 2c worth...

Damn, it sure is a small world!
He was driving a black Honda Integra Type R. He was blown away by the presentation and appearance of your car. He was gushing to me about how great it looked, especially your little chrome "turbo" badge! Nice wheels too, I hear! How about you post a few pics for us, Merv! ![]()

Now where is Todd Knighton located? There are 3 Protomotive locations (with different names, Prototech, etc.); NJ, FL, and CA? I called the one in NJ and they were nice. The one if FL was worthless (since I developed my own plumbing and just wanted their electronics, they weren't very willing to help).
I just have trouble paying $600 for a FPR. The chip is $600 which is fair, but I just feel they FPR is unjustifiably high which makes me not want to work with them even if the product is a good one. I also fear that with their system the chip may not be a perfect map for me, since I am using a different setup from them, and this could lead to problems. When I get closer to that point, I will call Todd and see what he thinks... Colby |

Colby, you can e-mail Todd at knighton@netquest.net. Mention me in your discussion with him as we're pretty good mates now. He's in CA.
Well, after a year of discussions, he knows me pretty darn well ![]() I know that Mike Rombotis (Mike The Mechanic) on this Forum is using his own FPR with the Protomotive CHIP and his setup runs fine, so I can't see why it worn't work. Just probably won't have the proper rising rate than what Protomotive's would in order to give the system that 'feel'. But hey, HP is HP, so do what your pocket can afford ![]() Sounds like you are making great progress tho. Looking back now, I wish I had done most of the simpler stuff myself and had the fabrication work done by pro's. I must say, the engine bay looks fantastic ![]()
