Turbo 3.2 Carrera project finished...
Well, after 10 weeks without my baby, the wait is finally over
![]() The car is absolutely awesome to drive. At only 0.5bar (7psi) boost, the difference in acceleration is just unbelievable. SO much more torque and I find myself having to keep constant watch on the RPM needle as it's drawn to redline like a magnet. Things happen very quickly when max boost hits, at around 3000. The Apexi AVC-R EBC does a great job of regulating boost pressure and that display is just fantastic to watch. It can display boost in kg/cm2, Engine RPM's, Injector Pulse, Throttle Position, Vehicle Speed etc. You can even select whether you want a digital numerical readout or an analog gauge on the display! A highly configurable unit, allowing you to pre-set boost per RPM's or per gear! I haven't quite yet figured out the Duty Cycle settings, which allows you to fine tune the regulation of boost, but shouldn't be too hard if I spend some time experimenting with it. The KKK K27 turbo doesn't run out of breathe, as 0.5bar (or even 0.7bar) is merely a walk in the park for this size turbocharger. The intercooler does a great job of keeping inlet temps down, to a few degrees just above ambient, which is great! The fact that the engine is running stock C/R (9.5:1) helps immensely with pre-boost drivability and torque. It feels just like a BIG naturally aspirated engine, only, when the boost hits, you really feel the sudden rush of acceleration. I had a chance to test it out at 0.7bar last night and all I can say is it really scared me. I thought 0.5bar was fast - 0.7 is just bloody scarey. It feels quicker than any other car I've driven (930 Ruf BTR, mod'd 930, 964turbo), because of the power:weight ratio. At 0.7bar, the back squats down so hard that the front seems to raise and steering gets very light. Kinda frightening. I MUST re-adjust my Koni's and fit larger torsion bars on this baby now. I'm not a real fan of the notorious "K'pssssshhhhht!" sound from the TiAL Blow Off Valve, but I guess I can live with it as it's more subtle than the louder units used in the WRX's/RX7's/GTR's etc. I may order an Air Collector device from TiAL that would allow me to redirect the expelled air back into the turbo's intake. Just an idea of how quick this thing is, I can hit 200km/h just on the FWY on-ramp and she just wants to keep pulling ![]() Anyway, I'll have my WEB site up and running over the next few days and will post the URL as soon as it's live. Hopefully with some audio and MPEG4 clips of her in action. Ciao,

Thanks Cam & Jack
![]() I am over the moon with the setup/package. Protomotive have really done their homework when it comes to figuring out the Motronic system and R&D'ing their Boost Sensitive Fuel Press Regulator. Very refined/linear acceleration. The end-result just oozes a well developed turbo-system on Protomotive's part. It's fast at 0.5bar and at 0.7bar, it's furious. I just love it to death. Now I just have to figure out this dang Apexi AVC-R electronic boost controller. I can get it to spool up really fast using a higher solenoid duty cycle, but that means it over boosts in upper RPM's and if I use a lower duty cycle, it sacrifices a bit of boost response for more accurate regulation. Bah....... fun, fun, fun! That's why we do this... (BTW, not affiliated with Protomotive in ANY way, shape or form. Just a VERY satisfied customer ![]() Be well...

Merv,
Sounds awesome! On our next Melbourne Drive Day, you'd better take it easy on us poor NA slobs! Let me know if you ever need the services of a terrified co-pilot for a run around the block! ![]()

Adam, would love to attend the next melbourne drive day
![]() Richard, Weltmeister Service in Richmond fitted the system and all the fabrication work was performed by RaceCraft Industries in Tullamarine and the Intercooler + Spoiler Mounted Oil cooler were fabricated by Aluminium Radiators & Engineering in QLD. However, the design of the system is 100% Protomotive and is based on their Motronic Software, Pressure Reg, Turbo J-Pipe and Wastgate configuration. Todd Knighton is an absolute genius and was there 100%, from beginning to end. They just didn't sell me a system and say "here you go, go figure it out yourself!". They literally held our hand all the way to the end and even now, provide valuable post-sales advice. Good help is hard to come by in these circles, and Protomotive are all about making customers happy. I couldn't have asked for a better system, or supplier ![]() Ciao!

Richard, it is a bit of a pain in the butt ordering stuff from overseas because you have to deal with customs brokers who liaise with Customs on your behalf to get all the paperwork in, then they charge you a fee + whatever Custom's charges you in Duties and GST. I'm just gald that side of it is over. Now I can just enjoy the car
![]() Gary, you won't be disappointed, believe me. Having your car DONE BY Protomotive is great! I wish I could have had my conversion done by them, but, being in Australia, there are only a limited number of shops who work on Porsches and even less who'd take on a project like this. Most of the shops I approached were sceptical and said "It WON'T WORK!". BOY, I can't wait to pop around to some of those shops and show them exactly what it can do now. Weltmeister were a little sceptical at the start, but were willing to take on the challenge of a new project and did a rather good job of it. Keep us posted on the progress on your 964 Gary. That should be an awesome ride too ![]()
