911 Intermittent engine problem fix.
I had a problem on a 1988 911 Carrera 3.2L that was finally diagnosed by Loren at Systems Consulting that four factory trained Porsche mechanics, including myself, missed. Bob at Pelican suggested I contact Loren & I am so happy now. Systems Consulting rebuilds ECMs & can test ECM, AFM & other electronic components.
These are the symptoms to the intermittent problem: Runs fine top end. Bucks sometimes on takeoff. Revving several times in succession will make it die with no throttle response. Sometimes had an erratic idle. Here is the test. Out of the following items, guess which one was the culprit. Air Flow Meter, Electronic Control Module, Idle Control Valve, DME Relay, Fuel Pressure Regulator, Fuel Pump, Intake Manifold Leak, Throttle Switch, Fuel Injectors, Intake Valve Leak, Distributor, Coil, Wires or Low Compression. I thought, as well as others, that it was the AFM. It turned out to be the coil even though it does not fit the symptoms, especially running well above 2k! Long ago I bench tested the coil & found nothing wrong. Loren, thanks again! |
