took the alternator of my 1970 911t, here are my questions 1. what is the sheet metal blade attatched to the back? 2.the wiring, had two wires attached, one big red one, and a blue wire(smaller guage) and then there were two wires, brown and black, that went into a plastic plug but was not hooked up, whats up with these wires? 3. are the unhooked wires for the older style alt. mine is brand new. the alt. that i have says valeo on it along with other various numbers. thanks in advance?

black to the brushes, brown to ground. if it was not connected, then either it should have been, or your old alternator was an internally regulated unit, which does not use the black wire. the ground wire should be attached to one of the ground (-) terminals on the back of the alt. regardless. if you are installing an internally regulated unit, make sure the old regulator on the panel to the left of the engine is removed.
