Rear end noise

I know this sounds unrelated, but I thought I'd throw it out. I changed rear torsion bars. I changed to later model spring plates as well. Now, it makes rear end noise under throttle. Kind of a nice grinding. I havn'tbeen able to find any rubbing parts. Any ideas? Just a strange coincidence?

Not a clunking lik a CV. (CV joints ok) Sounds like dry gear grinding. Why after changing torsion bars? Doesn't make sense.

I get plenty of that crunching/grinding noise but I know where it's coming from. It's the new shift bushings, letting tranny noise into the tunnel and cab. CV joint noise is different. With worn CV joints, it's a low rumble.

The crunchy noise I've got is scary and offensive to most folks, and I'll admit it's not a pretty noise, like a loud exhaust might be, but I can tolerate it.

Look closely at where the torsion bar end cap passes through the trailing arm retainer plate. You will notice that the end cap is not centered in the retaining plate aperature. Do your trailing arms have new bushings? If the bushings are old the end caps might be rubbing on the retainer plate. Sixty percent of the car's weight is resting on the trailing arm bushings and over time the bushings deform and sag down on the top side where all of the weight is resting.

Did you use the "special lube" for the bushings?

First I tried regular 'ol grease. After one (1) day, my bushing squeaked when I went over bumps. Pulled them out.. (what FUN!) and lubed them with the Weltmeister glue/snot. Haven't squeaked since.
