3.2 Engine/Trans Mounts
I just dropped my engine for a round of cleaning/sealing/etc.
I see that new Engine and transmission mounts are not too expensive. As my car is approaching thirty years old, I am thinking it may be time to renew all four mounts. Is this a waste of money, or bang for the buck? Thanks so much.

Just changed all 4 of mine, and the ones that came out were in good shape. Put standard (cabriolet) replacements in and could definately tell a difference in the consistency of my 915 (less balking) and amount of engine / trans rotation when getting off / on the throttle.
Its very easy - just make sure to support each of the units (engine / trans) when you remove a bolt, and only do one at a time (in your case since you have the engine down, this may not be of issue, but for others reading...). You will have to support the engine to the point where the car almost comes off the ground to ensure it doesn't drop down too much when you remove the mount. Make sure you have a sleeve/bar to extend your breaker bar - those bolts are ON there. Cheap. Easy. Do it.

I also agree. But, first, think about whether you would like a little more "connectedness" of the powertrain to the unit body (at the expense of some increase in NVH).
Here are your choices ranked by stiffness (tho I may blue/black Wevo reversed): 1. stock mounts 2. sport mounts, aka cab. mounts 3. Black Wevo 4. Blue Wevo even more combinations can be had if you mix the engine rear vs. trans front mounts as some people do... |

I did the engine mounts - change seemed transparent - I noticed nothing.
A few months later I did the trans mounts (G50 / 2-part polys from our host) - a little more noise, but shifting actually improved a tad. No regrets. Not sure if this helps w/ your 915.

I changed my worn out ones with Wevo's and it gives a firmer set-up.
