Your E-Mail

Hey Anthony,

Got your e-mail. I figured I'd answer it herein for the edification of all.

Here's what I would recommend with regard to that seal race and the gasket underneath it:

1. Soda blast the struts to get them clean, not sand. Sand will work but you will have to tape off the spindle and that race and, you'll probably want to clean it up. New gaskets are available and the race will come off with heat but, why bother? If you use soda, you can keep it in place and it should be fine. Soda will not hurt the spindles as well.

2. Do not powdercoat the struts. I've done quite a few and the result is less than desirable. The mounting ear where the lines clip together will usually get too much powder and make for some fun times when reinstalling.

I like to use paint that will heat cure. VHT makes quite a few flavors now a days (beyond what many of os know as the muffler paints) that can be heat cured. Semi-Gloss black should do.

Follow along on that facebook thread as we just sent those in for Soda this week.

To tighten up the top nut on the Bilsteins, I use a spanner wrench from my bike shop days.

Hi,

Sorry if it is a bit off topic, but didn’t want to open a new thread. I have on the right Bilstein (green and roll-pin) and on the left Boge (black). Is it possible to buy 1 set and fit them on both sides or do I need to change the whole strut?

Best regards,

Joost

There is not a "set" that would fit both of those.
The closest you could get is to buy a bilstein insert for each side and hope their valving is similar.
