I will be pulling my engine to fix what I hope is corrosion on my input shaft, which is causing my clutch to hang up. I have been planning this for a while, and have all my parts lined up, except for one thing:
The factory manuals call for a german product called Optimol olista longtime 3EP (sold thru castrol in the US), which is a long lasting, anti-corrosive lubricant that is applied to the input shaft to prevent corrosion (which I think I have). Unfortunately, after much searching, only one place in the US sells it, and their smallest size is a 5 gallon pale @ $130. I have requested a sample, with no luck. What have you guys used, or, what have your mechanics used? I'd really like to stick witht the factory specs, but am not having much luck. Thanks! David '95 993 |

When installing clutch parts, there are a few places where grease is necessary or at least a good idea. I hope it is this need you're trying to fill and not some exotic special 993 thing. Anyway, the pilot bearing needs lube and the release bearing should also have some, the shaft splines are a good target for a little grease and any other items that slide (except of course the disk and pressure plate.
Anyway, I have always used plain old White Lithium Grease. Next time I may step up to the high-pressure Molybdenum Disulfide stuff. At any rate, I do not consider this to be a critical, high-pressure application so I think you cannot make too much of a mistake here. Oh by the way, I've heard that this 'hanging up' problem can be a pilot bearing that is welding itself to the input shaft.
