Proj#1: Gently owned 02' 996 turbo donor black seats transplant to 87' Coupe

The heating element and the full power motor taken out by PO...

Need your transplant tips and advice (specially from those that have undertaken a similar procedure). Thanks in advance.

I've put them in a 993, not a big deal. Almost bolt-in. I've seen 993 seats in an 80's Carrera so I'm sure your mod can be done without major drama.

Be forewarned they sit a lot higher than previous generation seats. I did not like them in the 993 for that reason and I'm barely 5'9".

I'm pretty sure the the main mod is bending the front mounting tab on the seat rails "flat" from its 90 degree inclination. Up though the 993 series, all 911 seat bolt holes go vertically straight down into the floor. Starting with the 986/996, the front mounting holes are closer to horizontal.

@ kiesan,
TY for the feedback...the pair we acquired are just the seats without these...

we too are exploring a more simple adaptation without the drama...

@tippy,
TY, glad you like it

@adam912,
I do not know at the moment how much it weigh...will let you know once I get hold of a scale.

I searched the forums and saw many folks claiming a successful transplant/adaptation...but very limited pictures of the rail/slider adaptation for the 911. If you have a 996 seat adaptation picture(s), please share here. Thanks

I put them in both mu 1986 951 and my 1986 911. You have to modify the bottom by flattening out the front tab and make a bracket for the rear seat bolt holes due to the 911 having shorter mounting areas than the 99. Mine are actually full 8 way power with lumbar. Wiring was a simple 3 wire hookup once the wiring diagram was deciphered for the 996 seats

Here's a picture of the brackets you need to make them work. The inside and outside frame rails are different sizes so the brackets are different inside and out . Easiest way to measure the size needed is by mounting the front seat bolts and taking the rear dimension measurements. Don't remember the dimension - pictures were taken before I installed the seats a few months back - let me know if you need me to try to get the dimensions.

@ Ruflife,
TY very much for sharing your pictures...If it is not too much to ask, could you please share with us the dimensions of the brackets you fabricated and if you have more pictures that you could post that is gravy Thanks in advance.

a&j.. You make it sound real easy.... But I must be missing something... could only get seat to move in one direction (up / back & recline) (more then I could get to work before your help)

With all 5 seat connectors plugged back into memory control. In #6 socket (voltage supply), I connected 12v to pin 1 (Term 30) and to pins #1 & 2 (term 30/term 15-seat switch leads). Plus connected ground to pin 2 (term 31) and to pin #3 (term 31-seat switch lead). Did I connect this right.?

chas964,
Were you able to sort out your seat cu re-wiring?

-----------------

My project Update: was able to make the my re-wiring work BUT opted to NOT install these beautiful mint seats on my 87 Coupe as is...excluding the seats, the pair of driver and passenger seat cu and motors added approximately 30 lbs. wgt...sticking back to oem stock sports seats...

Car and I need to go on a diet and not gain additional extra weight...

By the way, we have two (2) power seat track sliding rail with motors (driver and passenger units), and one (1) LEAR seat control unit that will be made available in the FS classifieds section soon...

Thanks for all the help with this experiment. Learned a lot in this process.

Rob, sorry to drag up this old thread, but how did you solve the driver seat dilemma?
One post said they removed the brain and just put switches on each of the motors and used them independently? Steve.
