Intro / What is that light / indicator for ???

Hi,

my name is Manfred Bendisch, I'm from Bavaria in Germany and the proud owner of a '80 911 SC since two weeks. The SC is a US model and I currently make up a list of items that need replacing / restoration. So far, I have repaired the brakes including a new master brake cylinder today and replaced the headlights and rear light glass to European standards. Hopefully I will have it registered as a historic car next week.

There is one thing (sure there will be many more) I need your help with. Between the front seats, there is a light / indicator mounted to the floor. In my case, only the backside of the housing is remaining. I found a picture in a scan of an owners manual, but no explanation what it is. Can anyone of you shed some light on it?

Thanks, Manfred

It simply indicates that the two small handles near it are used to supply heated/defroster air to the dashboard system. It will light when the main light switch on the dash is activated.

Welcome to the wonderful world of the 911SC!

Peter,

thanks for the description. Knowing what it indicates I was able to locate it in the Porsche parts catalog which gave me the parts number 914.632.107.00. From there it was easy to locate a used one on ebay.

Vielen Dank für die herzlichen Willkommensgrüße! After I had finished my last restoration project, a 1971 Mustang Mach 1, I decided this year that I needed something new to work on. This time it had to be something smaller with which the wife would also dare to drive. I can't remember when Porsche came up in my mind, but that is what we both finally settled on. I plan to drive the 911 this year after which I will tear it apart completely. However, this time I think about having the body stripped and primed (instead of stripping it myself). Then, each part will be evaluated and either repaired, restored or replaced. I know that this is a huge project, but that is what I did with the Mustang.

BTW: great community here at the forums, I'm looking forward to participate and to learn a lot.

Hi,

as per your request here are two pictures of by 911 SC. The license plates are ugly, but they are only for temporary registration. Since my wife took them, I have converted the front and rear lights to European standards which is required for registration.

Regards, Manfred
