RSA panels & passenger window switch troubles.
Here is how my RSA door panel install went this weekend on my '87 Carrera....
Passeger side: Easy apart. This is fun. Easy together....until I get to the electric window switch because the wiring does not pull out very far. It takes me 2X as long to get the wires connected as it did to assemble the door because I don't want to yank on the wires too hard and they barely pull out far enough to get your hands in there. I get it hooked up finally with the help of some long needle nose pliers. Assembled. Pretty proud of myself. Looks good. Hit the window switch. Nothing. Driver side passenger window switch...nothing DOH! Back apart. Looks right. Pull off the wires and reconnect. Test it out first. (I'm learning) Works both sides. Assemble....works. Feeling proud again. Driver side.: Going smooth though window switches even harder to hook back up but all goes well. Still....kinda' fun. While I am over there I notice the lock trim on the passenger side sicks out away from the panel a bit so I put a little foam piece in the driver side between the lock switch and handle to make it push out a bit and close the gap. It works and it looks flush. Now I have to take the passenger side off again because I must do the same. Consistency you know. Pull it off, hook up switch wires correctly. Much easier this time. Test the switch. Switch is now not working. Driver side passenger door window switch is working. Check wires, take off, re-install, check fuses. Everything looks good as far as I can tell......Not working......Uhhggg! I am wondering if I pulled some wires loose in the door or maybe the switch went bad? I'm up for suggestions on what to check first. I'm getting tired of pulling those doors apart. I am getting really proficient at it though :P

FWIW, I have found that these switches are not very reliable, even the replacement ones from our fanstatic host I'm afraid to say. When mine fail they either stop working, or they don't stop raising or lowering the window when they return to center. In their defense, window switches in general don't hold up, just go to any u-pull it and see how many drivers door switch panels have been 'harvested' from the cars there.
You may want to check they are not shorting out on the metal frame that holds the switch. Does anybody know if the 993 switchs are compatible with the wiring? Chuck.H '89 TurboLookTarga, 332k miles |

That's good advice about the switch's metal frame. I'll have to check that.
