loose shift knob

Good day all,

The title says it all. I put in a new factory 915 shift knob complete with the spline sleeve (or whatever the correct name for it is) and the fit is snug but not that tight. When I went for a drive the other day the knob actually came out on a downshift!!

I just pressed it on the lever with hand pressure and dont want to use force for fear of damaging it. Any ideas??

tx very much to all of you!

Had the same problem. Original shifter and knob -- new crush sleeve. Very loose fit.
I think the new crush sleeves are undersized.

I put 2 or 3 laps of mylar duct tape under the crush sleeve and it seemed to help.

I used the mylar tape because it's thin and has a very sticky adhesive that doesn't get gloppy in heat the way electrical tape or regular duct tape tends to do.
There may be other tapes that will work as well.

It's still not as tight as the original installation, but it doesn't come off accidentally.

Be sure you put the crush sleeve over the shifter shaft first (amybe with 1/8inch started into the knob. Then push down tight.

If you try to install with the crush sleeve in the knob, it will never grab onto the shaft.
