I can't find my "911 Handbook". Does he give any ideas for a cooler set up?

Check out this thread - this is the setup I'll probably go with until I tear my trans apart:
trans coolers I'm going to replace my driver's side Mocal cooler with a center mounted cooler (suggestions?) and might use the old Mocal cooler for trans fluid. ![]() ![]()

And put a switch on it. You do not need a cooler for street driving -- pretty much ever. I put a temp gauge on my tranny, and I've never seen temps above 180 anywhere except the track.
See this thread for info on temperature sensitive stickers you can use to see if you even need a cooler.

Myself, I'm going to use one of those relays with a temp sensor like I did on my oil cooler. I'm trying desperately to remember the name, but they're available @ PepBoys and the like in the RV accessories aisle.

How does the cooler affect level of trans fluid? Do you just add enough to displace the fluid that is in the pump & lines? Or is less fluid needed because is is being pumped onto the gears instead of splashed?

My assumption is that you'd have to add fluid to make up for the volume in the lines...

Thom,
Where can you get a cooler like that? Is it available as a kit or is it a DIY job? Looks cool.... Rick

I'm trying to come up with a way to spray that return at the ring/pinion and the gears. Any ideas?

Bill,
Thanks for the link. Do you know of any other tranny cooler setups available? I'm planning on adding a setup later this year but don't feel like putting the whole kit together and messing up a critical step. Rick

Rick, here's a pic(previously posted) of another setup done localy; the only thing missing is the actual cooler, which was removed from the circuit to facilitate quick swaps, the owner was having heaps of trouble with a rebuilt engine overheating, note the quick connect on the starter +
