Prices on the rise in europe ?

At least in Germany... Yesterday on a quick search on autoscout24.de I found:

74-75 911S Targa - 25k eur
76-77 911S Coupe - 40-44k eur !

For anyone in the us selling cars to germans, it seems they're making a healthy profit.

The costs of taxes, shipping, inspection.

Post by Speedster

hallo from germany
i am importing Porsches to Germany , most of them from the US . In the 80s i shipped from here to the US in the early 90s back to Germany , in the early 2000s to the states and since 5 years again from the states to Germany .
The Prices in the US are up 30 % in the last 2 years and the situation will calm down since now the USD gained about 10% in value means i have to pay 10 % more . At the same Time i also pay 10 % more Duties .
If i buy a Car in , lets say AZ for 20 K USD , i have to transport it to Long Beach ( 800 USD )
than have it shipped to Bremen ( 1200 USD ) . Pay 10% Custom Duties , and than 19 % VAT .
20.000 Car
+ 800 Inlandfreight
+ 1200 Shipping
+ 200 Paperwork, Freightforwarder
+ 2200 Duties 10 %
+ 4000 VAT 19 %
So the Car here has cost me already 28.500 USD . Than the Fun really starts by getting the Car legalized here you have to go trough a Inspektion ( TÜV ) to show that the Car is Roadworthy . You change all lights to E2 , Yellow Blinketrs in the rear , NO Drivinglights in the Blinkers , the right Wheel+ Tiresize with the right Speedindex , original Exhaustsystem , Safetybelts , Foglights in the rear , just to name a few !!
If the Car has accidentrepairs they have to be done by a very high Standard ,same for Rustrepairs ( Bondo doesnt work ) . Before you sell the car here you spend easy another 3-4 K in these things . Than you have to give a 1 year warranty ,like on a new car , and it doesnt matter how old the Car is . If something breakes you fix it or end up in Court .
The really nice old Porsches are in firm Hands today ( in the US or here or anywhere in the World and normally not for sale ) I thinks its true that these Cars are rare in the US , i always loved to drive through California and part of the Fun was to see lots of Classic Cars , Jag XK , AH 3000 , TR3s , Porsche of Course , driven everyday .
These Days are over , when i was there last year i saw 1 Jag MK 2 , in 2 weeks .
Prices for your Cars will go up as soon as your Economy is picking up . so its up to you now : You all have to work hard to get the Economy going , than you make a fortune with your Car !! But meanwhile , lets enjoy them and it doesnt matter where you are .Of course that is if you sell it .
viele Grüsse : harald

There seems to be an opportunity to ship a Porsche you own to Europe with your US plates, drive it there for a while as a vacation trip (legal in Germany for 6 month with US plates). Then look for a buyer there and have him pay taxes, etc and get it legal there. The procedure could be a fun experience, great vacation, and possibly pay for itself???

Any ideas?

Sounds like the complete reversal of what a lot of foreigners used to do to import their cars, Go to Germany, buy and drive their new 911, ship back home as a used car.
It's like the circle is being completed!

Right, those were the good old days.

They really were....

1. Dealer discounts for factory delivery.

2. Weissach tours.

3. And NO DREADED STAU!!!!!!

There's a very similar story about an MG sold this way in R&T this month.
