Is there a LSD in my 915? I have no idea.

After attempting to search this forum, I came up completely empty on how to identify which 915 has, and which doesn't have, limited-slip.

It seems I'm search-impaired, so if someone could give me some tips on that, I could find out the info on my own. And maybe apply the tips to future searches?

TIA.

Easiest/quickest is to jack the rear of the car up so both wheels are off the ground. Then turn one in either direction by hand. If the other turns in the same direction then LS. Opposite direction then no LS.

Car must be in neutral for trak ratt's test.

Thanks, guys. I'll do that next time the car is in the air.

Maybe I'll make a post about it for those who follow...

That'd come up in someone's future search for sure- with a ton of other posts........... Not the first time this question's been asked and certainly not the last!

raise the rear end. turn one tire. if both turn in the same direction, you have lsd.

There is another way to test. With the car in neutral, raise one rear wheel in the air and try to turn it. If you can turn the wheel (easily) it is NOT a lsd.

I know. It's the searching part that was trouble. Either a boat-load of posts that had nothing to do with anything, or no results.

I think my post should be called "Limited Slip Differential (LSD) in the 915 transmission"

In the body: "How do I know I have one or not?" [link to this thread]

If it came with one from the factory, it will have a 12 between the 5 digit type number and the serial number. But with cars this old LSDs have been robbed and installed with the only good test being to spin the wheel or open up the sidecover and look.
