Eugene has been talking to Island about carrying these. I'm not sure what the status is, but I'll have him post here...

the originals were 4.5", island's is 4.25", which helps on the lower left side under the converter, made of 1/2" wide X .048" strap. a 4" length may even be better, as the converter side lacks a lot of room to work.

i am going to stalk my snapon guy. |
Islan911 hasn't been heard from since January 20th? Eugene has tried to email him and contact him with no results...
-Wayne |
i think island is having some health/family issues.
i wish him well. |

Thanks a lot Island, and I hope things work out for the best. Regards, |
Island rocks for building these!! I blew it by not getting one last time, won't make the same mistake again.
|
Neener, neener, I have one Denis :)
You'll never hate adjusting valves again.. -b |
I was fortunate to get a couple of Island creations when he made em awhile back.
Island911 - if you do pop on the board, our thoughts and prayers.... |
Additional info on possible replacements:
1. Starrett.com - item # 806 - 5 1/2" long, flat, no finger loop. This one could be bent or cut down. 2. MAC tool item FG-10 - same as Island's. This is the OLD item # from the 60's. I don't think it is still a good number, but MAC may have replaced it with a different #, or can tell you who made it for them. The search continues......... |
New design

A new island911 design has been tested & tweaked & tested. .. and a production batch is nearing completion. (these are scheduled to be available thru Pelican -- you all can thank Wayne for hiring Eugene . .. he is pleasantly persistent.) This new island911 design has been field tested by John Walker, Doug Zielke & myself . http://forums.pelicanparts.com/ultim...ons/icon14.gif The beauty of this new island911 design is in the tip. (please note, below) . . . it automatically puts the 90° bend in the shim-stock. (do i sound like a salesman yet? ) ;) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1077556403.jpg .. . i know, I know. .http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/bow.gif . . . ;) I think people are going to like this design. . . .well, except "thastings" whos log-on seems to have been created just for this thread. SmileWavy My apologies, to all of those waiting, and emailing me about availability. -- it won't be much longer. . .a couple of weeks ought to do it. OT: For those who have been wondering: Due to a stack-up http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat5.gif of not-so-nice "life issues" of the last six months, I have needed to re-prioritized Pelican projects and postings. Well; I'm back! . . .sort of. At least enough to get the tool production in-place again. -- A big Thanks for all of the kind words, and concerns, recently. |

Your PM box is full? Tried to send you mail. Anyway, I hope all is well with your health and family. Hoping to be able to get hold of one of your tools and do my very first valve adjustment when I get back home to Katie, my '67S after mid March. Best wishes. Sprint. |
Glad to have you back! You posts and ingenuity have been a great value to the P-Car community. Look forward to purchasing one of your tools.
|
Cool- can't wait. So what are some creative uses we can think of for all these obsolete P213's that will be floating around soon?
Think I'll use mine for picking grease out of my toenails |
This is great news for those who missed the last production run of
the island911® Valve Adjustment Tool. Believe me, once you use it, you'll forget where you left that P213! Thanks to Glenn, Eugene and the "Big Bird" for their efforts. |
Glad to hear from you again Island. Hope things are looking up for you.
|
The "bend-in-the-end™" is a great idea! I got mine on the last round but the tool keeps getting better!
|
Stupid question - does this tool work for all air cooled 911s (with the valvetrain requiring frequent adjustments)?
|
...and how do you know if I wasn't just a plant to get you back into production????????
No, just trying to fill the big gap created by your temporary absense. I am to new here to say that I knew you back then, but from this thread, it appears you have made your mark on the Porsche community. I'm just getting back into the Porsche thing again. Parked my "72 911T 10 yrs ago, after driving it for many years, and just never got back to it because of family, career, house, kids at college. Then, 1 day I woke up and decided that I was going go back to driving my old friend again. Do you know what is like to remove 10 yr old gas from a car? BAD........ Does this mean I get I get "first shot" at owning one of these, as they say on TV, "new and improved" tools? Ten years ago (pre BBS days), it was hard to get info on repairs and to find parts. Screw the "old days", this e-mail and BBS stuff is great. Terry Hastings Baltimore, MD |

Island. Please sign me up for one.
|
Me too. Is one going to be available through Pelican?
|
Count me in for one also. Thanks
|
Me too, me too... I want one!
|
How about a Paypal account setup for pre-orders? Easy way to provide on a first come first serve basis. I don't even know how to adjust my valves yet, but I want one! :)
|
I would like one also. Thanks.
|
Me six.
|
Pelican Parts,
Are you stocking these yet? If so might want to post in this thread, I'd like to have one with my next order. Thanks |
Please add me to the list. Too many broken blades, used a dozen on my last adjustment. And also lost a dropped tiny screw.
I had a thought on another approach to a tool design maybe worth consideration, Why not a .004 wire used in the same manner as dental floss, either with a holder or loop it around your fingers the old fashioned way. |
What's up with this tool? Since I have yet to adjust my valves, I imagine I need to buy one of these, but this thread is several months old. Are the tools still available?
Brian |
Last valve job I lost one of those tiny screw thingies on the factory tool (I know I should have glued it on)...PIA.....
I am still regretting the fateful day I doubted Islands engineering skill during his beta batch sign up. "Should I buy one of these dumb little things designed by some already full of himself Engineer?....even this John Walker guy says its the bomb, he seems to know what he's talking about" but then again, I mean, "I'm only gonna use it a couple of times, right?"...."Its not like I'm gonna get addicted to working on these dumb little cars, and these wacky air cooled engines right?"......"I've already got this cute little factory one it should last for the one valve adjustment I'll ever need" O.K. .......I'm a man and can admit it when I make a mistake or miss the boat on something...... Island, I'm sorry I doubted your immense engineering skills. I'll be a man and admit it, even Engineers can do something useful once in a while....... P.S. Sign me up for one if you make a new batch... |
I'll take one when avalible.
|
2 please....
R/ Dustin |
Where or how to get a hold of one of these tools?
Thanks |
I think we're still waiting on Island to have a bunch more made?
-Wayne |
I'm looking at this simple, well made, practical tool thinking that very soon it will be time for my first valve adjustment on the 911. Then it dawns on me, somewhere up in the attic in an old cookie tin from my "college days" is similar "device"
|
I'll take one when avalible, also.
