It's a very simple tool. I'm surprised someone else hasn't jumped on the bandwagon to make this available. There certainly is a lot of interest.

Whats the status on on the Island valve adjustment tool at Pelican now?
I really need one badly.

After waitng months and months to hear if Island is going to make some feeler gauges, I decided to "putz" around myself. Take a look.

What you are looking at are a couple of home made Island knock offs that took about 15 minutes to fabricate. The material is 5/8" wide pallet strapping material, about a 12" length will do. The "locking mechanism" on the tool is the criming piece that is used with the strapping material. It is very easy to make and you can pretty much customize length to fit your needs.

The next shot at a feeler gauge tool is even more simple.

It's an X-Acto knife and you will note that it uses our hosts .004 blades bent at a 90 degree angle. Just be sure the X-Acto knife that you use has a collett that has be split both ways, i.e. as you look at the collett it looks like a + sign.

How will they work? I'm not sure as I'm still trying to work up the nerve to do my first valve adjustment!

Wow, I did't know the P213 was so lousy! I am looking to do my first ever valve adjustment and the P213 is on my prject wish list. Now I think I'll delete it and just get blades and make my own tool with pallet strapping, unless Wayne gets the Island911 model in stock.

I can't yet say "when" they will be available (thru Pelican) But, I am restarting production. ( . ..with a yet another fab-shop. The last shop screwed-up almost 50% of the tools :mad: -- that was rather discouraging. . . and certainly put a quick halt to their running continuous production)

Anyway, if all goes well, Pelican should have plenty of these cool new tools -soon- !

How soon, is still TBD. --sorry, still too many variables. But, production is back in the works now. I will update this thread when I can tell you all when they will be available again.

(best guess now; 4-6 weeks out) ;)

I think this is a intersting tool, but, do you really find the factory tool that hard to use?!?!

I personally think the factory tool (ie blade attached via screws) sucks. I'm in for TWO of these when Pelican has them.

As a connection to a recent thread by Wayne, I would think some of the more innovative items being developed here and marketed through Pelican would have me opening my wallet more. I understand that it is probably easier said than done, but some of the "orthodox" soutions just don't interest me...especially for the price of "factory" stuff.

So let's redesign the unit body....

I've admired this tool now for years. For a number of reasons. I'll be getting one.

I usually adjust my valves with a P-207 tool and a dial indicator. Works well for me, but I'd still like to have this tool. And yes, it makes the factory tool seem like little more than a strip of feeler guage.

Andy, valve adjustments can usually wait. I put a LOT of miles on this car (like, 3,000 per month) and adjust my valves only occasionally. Did it a couple of weeks ago, and found perhaps three valves that were as much as .001" to .002" off. .001" off is actually still at the edge of spec. Point is, I find that if they are adjusted properly, then tend to stay pretty stable. Also, the gap widens when warm. So, it's not like you're going to get a valve failing to return to the seat or anything.

I agree it is well thought out, don't get me wrong. I just have no problem using the factory tool. I agree there is lots of quality products being developed by Pelicans, it amazes me sometimes.

Hopefully the price has not gone up from all the demand. But whatever the price its still cheaper than the shop.

I'll be picking one up....... unless there is a production run of 50 and there all gone when I hit the 'puter. :)

I've used both and have both. If you were to have only one, the Island tool would be a better choice. But, I have to agree with cata, you can do just fine with the factory tool.

I like to slide it up and down rather than side to side, to gauge tightness. The Island tool allows that since it's longer.

Well, I will get the tool when it becomes available and see for myself.

I dont think there is a latest...The maker of the tool does not accept PM's so you cant order from him. I have not heard any word as to Pelican suppling the tool. NOW WHAT?

I haven't felt like advertising here until I could get Pelican to handle sales. But shooting for attractive pricing (so a reseller can make something for their time) has been a bit of an issue. The one time I shot for "Walmart pricing" half of the order needed rework, or tossed. (a real hassle)
