Eugene has been talking to Island about carrying these. I'm not sure what the status is, but I'll have him post here...

Now THAT'S customer service!

john walker's workshop 02-20-2004 12:22 PM

the originals were 4.5", island's is 4.25", which helps on the lower left side under the converter, made of 1/2" wide X .048" strap. a 4" length may even be better, as the converter side lacks a lot of room to work.

Bending it does not work, BUT what if you cut it off at 4", weld it, hell even duct tape the 2 sides together at the cut end. The slider (there are 2 of them, since this tool is designed to hold 2 feeler gauges) will still keep the blade in place
AND....
you now have 2 of these little guys. It might even work better since you will not have the finger loop to work around.
Interesting.........................

haha, i bet drilling some holes and popriveting it together would work (before cutting it). the cheap guys like me could sell the other half. :)
i am going to stalk my snapon guy.

Islan911 hasn't been heard from since January 20th? Eugene has tried to email him and contact him with no results...

Unfortunately that is correct. However he was polite enough to inform me just now that a revised tool is in the works.

Thanks a lot Island, and I hope things work out for the best.

Island rocks for building these!! I blew it by not getting one last time, won't make the same mistake again.

You'll never hate adjusting valves again..

I was fortunate to get a couple of Island creations when he made em awhile back.

Island911 - if you do pop on the board, our thoughts and prayers....

thastings 02-23-2004 04:43 AM

Additional info on possible replacements:
1. Starrett.com - item # 806 - 5 1/2" long, flat, no finger loop. This one could be bent or cut down.

2. MAC tool item FG-10 - same as Island's. This is the OLD item # from the 60's. I don't think it is still a good number, but MAC may have replaced it with a different #, or can tell you who made it for them.

The search continues.........

New design

. . and so they will be 4". :)

A new island911 design has been tested & tweaked & tested. .. and a production batch is nearing completion.
(these are scheduled to be available thru Pelican -- you all can thank Wayne for hiring Eugene . .. he is pleasantly persistent.)

This new island911 design has been field tested by John Walker, Doug Zielke & myself . http://forums.pelicanparts.com/ultim...ons/icon14.gif

The beauty of this new island911 design is in the tip. (please note, below)
. . . it automatically puts the 90° bend in the shim-stock. (do i sound like a salesman yet? ) ;)

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1077556403.jpg

.. . i know, I know. .http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/bow.gif . . . ;)

I think people are going to like this design.
. . .well, except "thastings" whos log-on seems to have been created just for this thread. SmileWavy

My apologies, to all of those waiting, and emailing me about availability. -- it won't be much longer. . .a couple of weeks ought to do it.

OT: For those who have been wondering: Due to a stack-up http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat5.gif of not-so-nice "life issues" of the last six months, I have needed to re-prioritized Pelican projects and postings. Well; I'm back! . . .sort of. At least enough to get the tool production in-place again.

-- A big Thanks for all of the kind words, and concerns, recently.

Island,

Your PM box is full? Tried to send you mail. Anyway, I hope all is well with your health and family.

Hoping to be able to get hold of one of your tools and do my very first valve adjustment when I get back home to Katie, my '67S after mid March.

Best wishes.

Sprint.

fintstone 02-23-2004 11:15 AM

Glad to have you back! You posts and ingenuity have been a great value to the P-Car community. Look forward to purchasing one of your tools.

ubiquity0 02-23-2004 11:44 AM

Cool- can't wait. So what are some creative uses we can think of for all these obsolete P213's that will be floating around soon?

Think I'll use mine for picking grease out of my toenails

Doug Zielke 02-23-2004 12:09 PM

This is great news for those who missed the last production run of
the island911® Valve Adjustment Tool.
Believe me, once you use it, you'll forget where you left that P213!

Thanks to Glenn, Eugene and the "Big Bird" for their efforts.

arcsine 02-23-2004 12:42 PM

Glad to hear from you again Island. Hope things are looking up for you.

billwagnon 02-23-2004 01:40 PM

The "bend-in-the-end™" is a great idea! I got mine on the last round but the tool keeps getting better!
