Been trying to get one for almost a year now.
Does anyone truly have one of these Island tools? Or is it a ghost just materializing shortly and then going away. |

I bought one of these in '03 and never used it before selling my Carerra. If anybody is interested in buying it drop me a PM or e-mail (r_egan@yahoo.com).

The tool is a reality. I was lucky enough to get one last summer and used it for the first time over the winter. It is FAR better than the porsche tool.
But I think Island911 has been having some production problems with the manufacturer he has making them. The one shown above is an early version.

Hey Island, with everyone wanting one of these you might be able to retire. Hopefully I will get one before you do.

Wow, a blast from the past.
Thing is, I really don't see the need for those once useful island911 valve tools. IMO, the valves are easily set, within tolerance (which is huge at ± .002" btw) set with nothing more than noting the set-screw twist, off of solid - a 1/10th turn makes a .004 gap. Easy peasy. If you feel the need to spend lots of money to have tool for the job, Pelican sells an $85 gizmo that shows you the angle info. Again, with such a huge tolerance, that's a bit silly, IMO. Essentially, if the valves are cracked open, just off solid, all is good. Also, it is amazing how quickly a person can learn what the right gap feels like, by rocking the rocker. --I started by guessing the gap by feel, and then measuring. Really, after just a few, if the next is a couple thou too tight, or lose, it's obvious by just wiggling the rocker. @ Redstack - (that link) Ha, Camano island. --that's not me, btw. ..and $35? - wow, I was undercharging. @ dellorino - I'll post my drawings. I think I know where they are. I can tell you that the shim stock is traditionally .5" wide.
