Is it possible to remove the filter box with the engine in the car.
Sure would like to excess that area without an engine drop. Thanks in advance. |

you have to do silly things to tools like this: putting it back in would be tricky..very tricky. ![]()

If its an '88 Carrera like your username indicates, yep. No problem. Just need to wreck your hands a little bit getting the filter lid off. There's some 10mm wrench size nuts inside the air box you need to remove.
Also there's a hose bracket on the back that's held on with phillips screws and you need to do it blindfolded/by feel. Also a hose on the back side of the box that goes to the charcoal cannister. That hose can be a pain in the rear to get off the nipple. So be careful you don't get too impatient and break the nipple off. There's four screws inside the box that connect the box to the air flow meter. Those are tough to reach so it's usually better to just remove the air meter with the box. You need to loosen the large band clamp for the rubber throttle body elbow, disconnect an electrical connector and remove one more 10mm nut for the air flow meter mounting bracket.

Oh... ok, thanks KTL.
I'll take a look at the parts diagram for more insight as well. |
