I think those number ranges are for a sporto engine (911/61 engine type). The 2.4 liter 911T with MFI , engine type 911/51 will have engine number range 6120001 to 6124478.

vnm007,
You got TWO correct answers to your question. 9112110114 decodes as: 911 = Vehicle model (911 group). 2 = Model year 1972. 1 = Engine type 911T-E. 1 = Body version Targa 0144 = Sequential number. The engine type 911T-E is the designation for 1972 or 1973, 911T, 2.4 l (2341 cc, 140 hp, MFI). The engines can be either type 911/51 for USA 4-speed or 5-speed equipped or type 911/61 for Sportomatic equipped. If the engine is type 911/51 then the range of engine numbers are 6120001 to 6124478 (4478 total). If the engine type is 911/61 then the range of engine numbers are 6129001 to 6129293 (293 total). These engine numbers decode as: 6 = Engine designation, 6-cylinder unit. 1 = Engine type, 911T-E (1972 or 1973, 911T 2.4 l [2341 cc], 140 hp, MFI). 2 = Model year, 1972. 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4 for engine type 911/51 for manual transmission; 9 for engine type 911/61 for Sportomatic transmission. xxx = sequential number. The transmission types used with each engine type are: For 911/51 are 915/00, 915/01, 915/02, 915/03, 915/10 and 915/12. For 911/61 is 925/00. Transmission numbers decode as: 7X2xxxx; 7 = Transmission for 6-cylinder. X = 2 for 4-speed, 3 for 5-speed, 6 for Sportomatic 925/00. 2 = Model year 1972. xxxx = Sequential number. Sources: Spec book – 4220.20 (X/73); Service Information USA Model 1972, (IX/71); Factory Workshop Manual 4805.20, Vol IV, Group 3, revision XXXV. Best, Grady

that's not a proper number. should be 7 digits...all numbers for a 2.7 or 3.0 up to 1981. For the 82 and 83 3.0's it was 8 didits... 2 numbers 1 letter and 5 more numbers.

Engine number Range for . . .
Seems like you guys on this thread might know how to answer my question. Bought a 2002 C4S with a bad IMS bearing which F'ed up the engine. I brought it to a "rebuilder" and didn't write done engine number. I'm worried I may not get MY engine block back. My vehicle's VIN is WP0AA29942S623580 - Can someone tell me the Engine number range for it? Is there anyway to know if I got the "matching" engine block back? I don't know if the newer cars can be deciphered like you guys did with these older one.
Thanks!

Which brings us to the next mystery engine # from a 1973 1/2 T with VIN #9113112067 and engine # 6133169 type 911/91. PCA says it's not the correct eng. # I've been told but I can't confirm that because I'm in Puerto Rico and they won't give info out unless you have a stateside address/phone #. A friend of mine in the States actually got the info over the phone. I believe it is the correct # as there are so few of these out there. Any ideas? Thanks.

type 911/91 starts at 6133001 <> 6136092
6133169 is # 169 out of 3092 thus very early 9113111001 9113112302 9113112067 is # 1067 out of 1302 thus very late to match the engine should be in the 61354xx range

smooth,
I find it offensive that PCNA doesn’t respect Puerto Rico as USA. If you have a problem with them not responding, please tell me. I’ll make them understand. Best, Grady

JRBennett - Thanks for the Info. I'll use that when I pick up my disassembled engine. I asked that he not put anything back together or crate anything so I can carefully inventory the parts. May I ask where you got the information?
Thanks again!
