73RS "ish" build. Stripes? Duck?
I am planning to build a RS style car from a 73T that has already had SC quarters installed. Trying to decide on a route for the paint as well as wether to install the duck. I want to do some sort of stripe on the hood and deck lid but also want the RS look. Has anyone seen an RS with hood stripes? I am thinking Black with Silver stripes or Silver/Grey with Black stripes. I made a couple of drawings to describe what I am looking for. Opinoins are welcome.

although i'm a fan of the duck, i think the stripes look good without.

If you want to be an RS look, do the ducktail. If you just want a hotrod that draws the best bits of RS, ST, and R, then go for the top one. I think the stripes you drew on the ducktail are interesting/different, so that would be my vote.

I like both looks. I think you will be fine with either choice.
A few people here have put on vinyl stripes. That way they can always be removed later if you want something different. I guess the same could go for the duck tail. Have both deck lids painted up.

Kirk:
Look up a Pelican member: Dave Bouzaglou @ TRE Motorsport in Los Angeles. He has every combination of tail photo for a porsche on the plant. Great Guy, he is a long, long, time Porsche guy, and he knows his business cold! Ducktail, Whales Tail, or IROC Tail>he's got a photo and or knows the owner of a car. He has (2) photo's that will look just like your two drawing that I have seen him post in the past! The script: at least 2-3 Pelicans can and do produce quality script or stripes to meet your needs: Check out the 911 used parts post over the past two weeks>both have posts/treads You have many choices as to having a tail built and out of what material: Fiberglass reproduction or custom using your metal decklid or a donor. My two cent: spent the extra $$ and have a custom metal decklid>built! Check out Gary Stratton Motorsport>He's a listed pelican! Hope it helps and hope it turns out well! art ![]() |

I think the stripes look awesome -- especially with the duck.
I would not go for both hood/roof/decklid stripes and side graphics. To my eye, that's going to start to look cluttered.

That was my thought as well. Trying to find a middle ground is difficult. Maybe I should leave the decals off all together and just focus on stripes? I guess I should point out that I want it to still look like something that might have been done in the period.

I agree with Jack about the stripe on a Ducktail, but if you have a SC/964 I don't like the Porsche reflector breaking up the look. The early cars look cool, and yes it may get a little busy with early or RS script & stripes. Pull up Jack garage, his works simple and period correct.
Here is a couple of my mine (I have all three type of tails) with Silver script on Grey/Blue. ![]() ![]() art |

Nice car. Very much like what I had in mind. Except black and silver.

My $.02...
I like what you have planned for the car. If you do stripes, do only hood and engine lid with P O R S C H E Tilton script on the side. That would look fantastic with the R/ST engine grill. The duck looks good too with that unique stripe treatment. I would leave off the Carrera RS graphics and do simple Tilton script. To my eye, I prefer the duckless, flared look with the R/ST grill and Porsche script. No wonder as that is kind of how I have my car.

Since it's your money and not mine, what about sourcing an extra deck lid and doing both?
